LoFReQ Sub Microphone, Black

I have been in the live sound world for 30 years. I can remember the first wave of fascination with the use of the ns10m driver as a low frequency extender. There have been many custom built and boutique examples of the sub-kick built over the years. They were heavy, clunky, and most required impedance matching to work properly. I have been using the low-freq for nearly a year now, and I am still amazed by the accuracy and repeatability of this little masterpiece. There is no need to boost or pull anything with a kick drum or bass amp. Just gain it up and add it to your sub aux buss. I now own and use three. One for kick, one for bass amp, and one for leslie low. The results have been incredible. I am comfortable recommending this to anyone who truly understands what these devices are used for.

If you lack the technical knowhow, or just don’t want to wire up a speaker to be a sub-mic, this is a high quality option that will put some real OOMPH into your kick drum tracks. I was impressed with the heft of the unit, but even more impressed with the sounds it picked up from the front of my kick drum! I use it in tandem with a Shure Beta 52a, and the result is nice. Great mic indeed! Not only looking way cool but sounded real nice, fat but tight at the same time - right out of the box. So light its taken to every Sunday service served. Paired it with AKG D112 with awesome results. Bought a short desktop mic stand instead of the boom arm stand in the picture for stage neatness. Black both look cool & blends well with the rest of stage. Rest of sound team were blown away with the live & recorded sounds. Just the bit to round up the entire drum kit sound. Highly recommending to other sound guys. Tighter subs & lows than a 'reference' sub-kick now discontinued & way easier & neater to setup. A lot lighter too & with heavyweight killer tone! Extremely happy with the choice after spending much time before this Googling up comparisons, reviews, etc. Will definitely pick this for the next song when they are ready to track. So glad to have it in my range of mics. :))

Works like it should. I use my main kick mic (I have 6 to choose from in the studio), room mics, overheads, tuning, etc. to get the majority of the sound I want in the mix. Then the Solomon LoFReQ is used to slide in some extra low-end girth. The difference between adding lows to my main kick mic vs. using the LoFReQ can be subtle. Think of the LoFReQ as the chocolate sauce on the sundae: Very nice to have, but not required per se. Bottom line is I prefer the LoFReQ to provide the solid lows, so it's staying up on the studio kit!

This is a robust and very effective mic that picks up exactly what it’s name suggests. Easy to use and does exactly what you need it to.A bonus due to its frequency response is that it doesn’t pick up all the room and cymbals wash that infects other outside kick mics.I use it with a normal kick drum mic that sits inside my port and picks up the beater and snap of the kick.

Adds really nice low end to my kick. I’ve got a sennheiser e602 mkII inside near the beater for the snap and this right outside the drum the combo of these two mics levels cities. You can probably feel it from your house.

I'm very pleased with this mic. Doesn't pick up anything over 1k, didn't have to do any eq on it, just turn the fader up to add boom to the kick drum. Solid and easy to mount/position. It sounds much better than the Yamaha that costs more than twice as much. I found that if you add lots of compression and position it right, you can use it to record your own 808s

This is a very solid and compact reverse speaker cabinet that adds great sub along with your regular kick set-up. For the price, it is a no-brainer, it is much smaller and easier to set up than the other versions, but it is not to be used by itself unless you are going for some kind of radical kick as it does not give you that round, electronic sub tone. It is mostly for addition to your regular kick mic(s).
