Deluxe three CD edition includes Director's Cut plus remastered versions of the Sensual World and the Red Shoes, all housed in a case-bound book. 2011 album from the British songstress. On Directors Cut, Kate revisits a selection of tracks from her albums the Sensual World and the Red Shoes, a process that presents a fascinating portrait of an artist in a constant state of evolution. She has re-recorded some elements whilst keeping the best musical performances of each song - making it something of a director's cut but in sound, not vision. All the lead vocals and drums are new performances, some of the tracks featuring guests including Steve Gadd, Danny Thompson and, on backing vocals, Mica Paris. Three songs have been completely re-recorded, one of which is 'This Woman's Work.' EMI.

This woman's work is astounding, breathtaking
For all you rock stars out there, pay attention: Kate offers among these three discs a master class in how to reconsider one's work and remaster tapes taht were near perfect to begin with. The Director's Cut Disc itself offers a reconsideration from Bush today of highlights from The Sensual World and the Red Shoes, somewhat stripped of some of the production effects and sung in different keys to accomodate the changes in her voice. The effect is that they resonate with as much, if not more pwer and authority now than they did back in their first iteration. Bush was on a tear from The hounds of Love through the Red Shoes, and while there isn't anything from Hounds here, what is on offer is her original idea for the soliloquy from Molly Bloom in Ulysses. The Flower of the Mountain is worth the price of the set all by itself. and God bless the Joyce family for finally giving this the greenlight it deserves. It amy even carry more weight now as Kate would be closer in age to Molly at this point. The remasters are things of wonder. For the record, they were terrific when they first came out and set her so far apart that nearly every other woman working in rock was overshadowed by her. Pale imitators like Amos never could hold a candle, and with the work done on teh tapes in getting them ready for this set, those incredible sessions set her light years beyond each and every pretender. Whatever david Gilmour heard in her as a teenager, by Sensual World she had vindicated his critical judgment. Keep in mind thatw ith that record she jettisoned past the artistic benchmarks that even such pioneers as Peter Gabriel were setting. Listening to the remaster is like lsitening to it for the first time and teh whallop delivered by the Trio Bulgarka will knock the emotional wind out of you. Paddy Bush's uillean pipes never sounded better either. The Red Shoes also gains a presence it never seemed to have before. There is a drive and desperation in the work that is emotionally exhausting. Upon its completion, thatw ould be it for Kate for a very long time. Word is that she is preparing a new release for the fall. It can't come soon enough. Bush, like Mitchell in an age before her, reset all the dials. And she had formidable competition in Sinead, Marta Sebestyen and Maireda Ni Mhaonaigh. If you are a fan, this is essential listening. If you have heard of her and wondered what the fuss was about, pick this up. This woman's work was then and continues to be astounding.

Interesting alternate versions by Kate
I wasn't sure what to expect from this album.I like the original versions of these songs, but being a long time fan I was curious to hear what Kate had come up with.I liked all but one of the new versions, but honestly I don't feel like "Director's Cut" was necessary.I enjoy albums more than singles or compilations, so the original "Sensual World" and "Red Shoes" albums are a more enjoyable listen for me.I consider these versions bonus tracks, but not replacements for the original recordings.

There is a version of this with just one disc I recommend buying the three disc set
This is the set to buy, this has all three discs that Kate re did. There is a version of this with just one disc I recommend buying the three disc set. If you are a Kate Bush fan then this is a must have for your library, you can hear the versions of the songs how she wanted them. It is just so cool that she went back and re released all of these and did it her way, love it!

Unnecessary luxury for my Bush collection
I do not particularly like what Kate Bush has accomplished remixing and reworking the vocals on these several songs of hers and I can think of twenty or thirty others that would have benefitted far more from her matured creativity and age-mellowed voice. Still, I'm glad to have this nicely packaged set my collection. This release is much more fun than the US version. The two additional disks (with slight audio improvements) and the photo booklet added to the price, sure.

Some nice work in the remaster, but then.....
Nice to have a "less harsh" version of Red Shoes. Perhaps too much on the "bassy" end of the spectrum. A similar remaster of Sensual World would have been welcome. Both were a bit on the shrill side. The new versions disc I can't get through. I'm soooo married to the originals that the new versions bug me. Kinda like Lucas and his Special Editions. Why?

Amazing!
The new versions of older songs are AMAZING! I was never a big fan of The Red Shoes, but now that I have heard many of those songs re-imagined, I love the new versions.... and I like the old versions like never before. It's like the reworks have unlocked those songs for me now.

Beautiful packaging/booklet though and if you don't have the two ...
Didn't really live up to my expectation. Of course, The Sensual World was a stunner, but I don't think there's anything new in this release. The remaster of The Red Shoes is okay. The Directors Cut disc itself is a mixed bag. Interesting in it's own way, but nothing (on first listen) has knocked my socks off. Beautiful packaging/booklet though and if you don't have the two studio albums already, certainly worth it for that alone.

Love all three cds
Love all three cds!!! Somehow missed the two original albums when they came out (The Sensual World end The Red Shoes) so I can't comment on whether the changes are improvements though they sound great. On the Director's Cut Kate Bush's deeper, lower voice certainly adds sensuality to most of the tracks taken from The Sensual World and, I'd say, the majority of tracks from The Red Shoes are also actually better.I realise though it's hard for people who have lived with the originals for years to see the merits of new takes. One glaring example of a track that is NOT better is Rubberband Girl, I'm afraid! Still, if you hadn't heard the original you might not react negatively towards it.

Wasted opportunity
Bought this as I wanted The Red Shoes remastered version and thought I might as well get the Director's Cut too. The Sensual World CD is not a remaster as far as I can see/tell. The Red Shoes is an excellent collection of tracks, with fine recording quality. The Director's Cut CD has some interesting new arrangements of some tracks, but has been recorded so poorly that it rather defeats its object. The sound is muffled, sometimes sounding as if you're hearing the music from another room. How could they put this out? Such a wasted opportunity.

However not disappointed and should have bought this first time of issue
Kate Bush is not the first to re-work a past master. This was purchased in a catch-up period, not unusual these days and perhaps suffered the long absence of fresh material in recent years? However not disappointed and should have bought this first time of issue. My loss indeed!

The Queen
This woman is brilliant a genius, her writing and music is so original and a great source of inspiration for modern day female singer / writers. A fan since '78 and her music is still as original now as it was then
