3M is the Trademark of the Minnesota Manufacturing & Mining Corporation. Thinsulate is one of their many products that is used primarily for heat insulation. Thinsulate fibres are much thinner and therefore denser than regular fibres so provide better insulation, while allowing moisture to evaporate away.. Thinsulate gloves benefit from being less bulky than regular knitted type gloves. I hope this helps.
