Magic Jack isn't so Magical
The only thing I use the magic jack for is an answering machine. Other than this it uses too much bandwidth for most motels, crashes their systems. Loses the connection when at home and I end up using my cell rather than the magic jack. I would not purchase one again and once my contract is out I won't renew.

handy for cheap service
First off, this is not a free service. Your first annual fee is include when you puchase the device, after that there is a $30 annual fee, maybe less if you purchase a longer contract. And about cost, think twice before changing an internet triple play to a double service, because the total cost could be higher. Many have already encountered this when eliminating a land line because they have cell service. Ditto eliminating a land line because you have MJ.About MJ, I've had this product for about four years, and recently got the ethernet product too. I have had no permanent issues with either device. There is no useful customer service, but I found online user groups that had answers to all of my questions. The quality of the voice connection is better than my cell phone, often not as good as my land line, often just fine when connected to a telephone. I have made short faxes, but not long ones, those seem to be interrupted and drop the fax. I also frequently use MJ apps on my iPad and iPhone 5, which are very handy.About forwarding from a land line to MJ number, such as when traveling: callers told me they got a MJ message saying their call could not be completed, to contact THEIR carrier for support. Turned out, this was true. Certain phone providers are not completing calls forwarded to a MJ number. No surprise, since MJ is serious competition. I have had NO problem with people calling my MJ numbers directly.About customer support: sales is OK, but don't expect much after that. In all truth, I don't get much service on my land line either. If you have a problem, google it. If this would frustrate you, MJ might not be a good match for you.About MJ apps: I often use the MJ app on iPad for a speakerphone. It's not perfect, but neither was my real speaker phone. And when I travel, I can use the MJ app on my iPhone. Wifi can be much cheaper that roaming cell service.

2nd jack not so hot, resource hog
I installed and registered the first jack and it works well. Callers say the line is clear and I hear them clearly. While plugged in and idle, it is a huge resource hog, almost as much as explorer.exe.I plugged the second jack into another computer for a second phone line. I signed in and the jack was assigned another magicjack name but given an arbitrary free magic talk ten digit number with an asterisk front and back. I can call out but when I call the caller id number listed I am prompted to enter my magic talk number. I live chatted with support and was told to give the magic talk exchange number and my magic talk number as my phone number. 22 digits! I'm sure I'll remember that. Or I can buy a regular 10 digit number for $10 plus tax.The second line was for occasional use anyway and I'll just use my cell phone rather than plug in the magic and wait for it to load up. I wouldn't leave it on all day anyway on my puny laptop. If you need two lines, I would recommend buying two magicjacks and registering with different e-mail addresses.

Absolute garbage!
The magicJack software runs so slow on a quad core Intel i7 PC running Windows 7 (because I know better than to downgrade to Windows 10) and every other PC I have tried to run it on that it is unusable. Multiple attempts to contact tech support where of no use, all they could do was tell me to keep reinstalling the software which does absolutely no good. It's absolute garbage. The software that came with the device originally worked okay but as soon as you connect to the internet it automatically upgrades to this Windows 8 looking version that is a huge problem. you can't even dial the phone it takes about 10 seconds between digits, I swear it's that bad. Maybe I'll make a video and show you if people don't believe me. No update has ever fixed it and frankly I don't even think they care. It is absolute junk and the magicJack that I paid for is now being used merely for voicemail because it is absolutely unusable to make phone calls. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Their device doesn't work and they have to know it and clearly they don't even care.
