James Scott Bell never disappoints. His teachings are insightful and practical with help examples in a lively conversational style presentation. That I love about this book! Unfortunately, the quality of the book itself was far below par. Every fourth page was loose... as in unattached. It requires great carer to make sure none or displaced. And a rubber band.

This is a good book. It is great for a new writer as well as a more experienced one. The book is brief and to the point and makes for a good reference. I got this book shortly after it came out. Since then, I have highlighted my copy and all it takes is a quick scroll through the book to get some more character ideas. You can sort of use it for a template or idea generator once you got things marked. Plus it is quick and well organized.For those of us who have written fiction before, published or unpublished, it is an excellent review. Face it, you need to review things or you forget. It's a good tool to look at as you developed your character.I didn't get any free offers and I do not know and have ever communicated with the writer.

I love Mr Bell's books on the craft of writing. His style is not only educational, but greatly encouraging! Definitely worth reading.

The author gives great advice for creating believable characters in easy-to-understand definitions, along with wonderful examples. He offers assignments at the end of each chapter for putting these concepts to work for you. I have invested in several books on fiction writing and I relied on others' reviews, so I have to contribute the same for anyone else out there who is considering which of the many options to buy. This book does not disappoint! It's the kind you'll want to take notes from and re-read in sections.

Every once in a while I like to read HOW TO books on the craft of writing just so that I can remember or learn something new. The information presented was clear, precise and very intelligently presented. Good reference manual for any writer.

Full of actionable take-aways and platinum real-world examples, this book is a gem on the craft of character creation. If you are working on a novel and want to ensure your characters capture your readers and turn them into fans, this is a must-read. Two of my favorite techniques gleaned from this book: 1)“Shocking Coffee,” and 2) “Best Day/Worst Day.”Many thanks to the author.

As always Mr. Bell's book give you valuable information on the art of becoming Not a good writer but a great one.I have Read several of his books and each one has taken me further into the craft of writing and writing well.He breaks down the subject so that you know that you can do it because he is very straightforward with How And with great example.

This book and this series stir my current stories to rise and make a difference by offering aids for character development. Mr. Bell reminds us that making our characters real guide us to be the heroes we admire. His examples are crisp and detailed. Five stars!

If you are considering writing, this book will prove invaluable. It is entertaining to read with well chosen examples and great tips on how to craft unique and memorable and characters.Some books are a treasure worth far more than their selling price, and this is one of them.

Even after writing 9 books this book helped me write my tenth. I wish I had it from the beginning of my writing career.

Another great book by James Scott Bell. Easy to digest in one setting. With good points on character development. Certainly will help with making characters three dimensional. Highly recommend.

Once again, James Scott Bell has nailed down how writers need to make characters engaging. This is an excellent read, I highly suggest this for any writers took box.
