Top quality!
Just got my new Bissell 2998 yesterday and it’s already been used four times. It is light enough to lift from the box and assemble without instructions but I referred to them anyway. I like the way it all connects with a twist & lock or just a click without needing to refer to highly technical schematics. This is my third new vacuum in six years. Both prior vacuums, a Shark Liftaway and Bissell ClearView, still operate very well but my back and shoulders couldn’t take it any more. The ClearView is significantly more difficult for me to push, and the Shark is awkward. The new 2998 has fantastic suction and for some reason, I suspect it’s the closed HEPA filtration unit, it’s not pulling at my w-2-w carpet up the way the Shark did. Yet it’s powerfully extracting the finest dust particles! I’m just blown away by the power, quality, versatility, and most of all ease of cleaning. It came with an attachment for high dusting or hard to reach corners and the other for upholstery. I wish I had a before picture to share of my ottoman but I literally brought the original color back after two passes using the upholstery attachment. I also like that I can use the rollers or not and adjust for bare floors without having to bend or reach for the switch. The unit is more compact than most vacuums although it’s certainly weighty enough and it’s not made with cheap plastic. It’s actually a pretty appliance if you can believe it. I don’t know after so many months of searching, googling, using AI resources and finally the one embedded in the Amazon app - which I love! - I’m just so thrilled to finally have something to use that doesn’t make me feel my age. My back didn’t hurt once! I nearly selected a Eureka model for about $90 less, and for $200 more I could have the Shark Stratos that was in my cart for four days before finally finding this one. I made the right choice. Highly recommended!

Works great and keeps me honest with those strong LED lights!
I don't have pets but I finally wanted a "real vacuum cleaner" and after about an hour of research I decided on this Bissell. There were a lot of reviews about the cable getting stuck underneath the vacuum and it seems to me they sort of fixed that: There are areas up top where you can clip the cable and have it be out of the way. The power cord seems fine to me but I live in a small apartment. I was curious though if I did want to get a power cord, and Rufus gave some good affordable power cords that people with a bigger home might want and then the problem of not the longest cord is solved. It was super easy to assemble and very intuitive to use. I have a mop and a stick vac and am clean, or so I had thought. I filled the dust container in a half hour, it really cleans deeply! Oh, and there were some comments about the bare floor vacuuming without the brush setting not vacuuming as well as the brush setting; I learned that I can use the vacuum with the carpet brush setting on my bare floors and bathroom and that worked well. Comments about dust flying if you do that is solved by cleaning your dust container if you have lots of dog hair or other things that could end up falling out somehow. Speaking of hair, my long hair is everywhere and I usually have to cut the hair out of any vacuum I use. I couldn't believe it, not one single hair was caught inside the brush after vacuuming my whole place! This Bissell is a keeper!

Great on carpet - Not on bare floors
After multiple attachment replacements on my Dyson Animal DC07, I decided to try another brand. I researched a lot of lift-off style models and chose the Bissell 2998. I have two short-hair cats that I didn’t think shed a tremendous amount (ha!), but they seem to fling litter everywhere they go. After six weeks with this thing, I’m still amazed at how full the tank is after each use. PROS: - It does a fantastic job cleaning carpets! It has amazing suction power. - I love the convenience and portability of the lift off tank. Good-bye to lugging around the whole unit. - The brush attachment is amazing for cleaning carpeted stairs. On its first use, it pulled a shocking amount of cat litter out of the steps. - The headlights are bright and well placed. They’re more effective than I expected. - The swivel style is very maneuverable and helps reach difficult places. CONS: - It’s almost worthless on bare floors when the brush is turned off. It hardly picks up anything at all. Most of my house is carpeted, so it’s not a huge deal breaker for me. - The cord is shorter than the Dyson, so I have to move the plug frequently when going from room to room. - And, since the cord is attached to the tank it comes out near the bottom of the unit when used in the upright position. In order to avoid running over it, I end up holding it in the hand that grips the handle which shortens the length even more. - I wish it had a release button a the top of the tank like the Dyson for a cleaner way to empty the debris.

Absolutely Great!
I had a Bissell for about 5 years that stopped working. I guess maybe it was a clogged brush roller or broken belt. I did a ton of research on a new vacuum cleaner. As usual, there are always mixed reviews. I decided on this one because of the pet hair issue. We have 3 cats and the amount of hair that needs to be vacuumed is ridiculous. We recently had the carpet removed from the stairs, which was always difficult to clean. Today was the first use of this vacuum cleaner, and let me tell you, it's a great cleaner! Easy to assemble, much lighter than the previous one, suction is phenomenal, and so easy to use. I forgot it was a swivel type, and although I wasn't looking for that feature, it really is helpful. I like the power switch being close to the top, and the ability to turn off the roller is great for cleaning area rugs that can get sucked up. It even sucked up a cat toy by accident and was very easy to remove. I have a bad back, but this is very easy to use without any pain. The light definitely helps a lot too. I can't believe how much of a difference it made after just one use! The canister was full after just doing 2 rooms! Cleaning the machine is a breeze. Everything swirls around the center of the canister, and just falls out into the trash bag without having to pull it out like my last one. The cord rewinder would have been a nice feature, but that's about the only thing missing on this. Oh and the pet hair attachment is way more powerful than the previous one. Easy to clean that, too. Plus the HEPA filter is a definite necessity. All in all, I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner for everyone! Good job, Bissell!

Good vacuum, cleans well if only it had....
First, this vacuum cleaner cleans very well and overall I'm happy with my purchase. I was surprised how dirty my rugs were! I had an old Bissell Pet vacuum - bought it about 10-12 years ago and it was still going strong, but evidently not as strong as I thought. The versatile attachments are great! Having the option to remove the canister is great for when you need it off the ground (like for stairs or very high ceilings). This is for when you'll be holding the canister - it'll tip over if you set it down and stretch the hose - that's just physics. Having the option to remove the wand (whether you detach the canister or not) is also great. Having the option to remove the hose and use it without the wand is also very useful for getting under things. The cord is plenty long and there is a cold holder on the handle for when in use and is very helpful. It doesn't retract - it's manual wrap on the side of the machine; but I knew that when I bought this and that doesn't bother me, it's just one more thing that could break. Emptying the canister is very slick! Now, what I don't like: The handle (which is also part of the wand) is very tall and doesn't lower for storage. I'm 5'9" and it just makes it a little more cumbersome to move around. Using it as a wand, detached from the machine, is a little off balance and on the heavy side. It could be balanced better to hold as a wand is all. As an upright vacuum it is on the heavier side - halfway between my old Bissell and my heavy-duty Hoover. It does not have auto-forward, so it's difficult to move around but I've found if I keep the brush on "plush" mode it helps propel it. It's on a swivel but is difficult to reverse out of, if that makes sense. The brush attachment I've used once and it didn't work all that well. It has holes on the sides which lessen the suction. I didn't see a way to close those. I may try putting tape over them to see if that helps. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think so. The stick attachment is nice with a retractable brush. I do wish it were longer, but my stick from my old vacuum fits so I'll just keep that around. So, as a "budget" vacuum I still give it a 4-1/2-star rating and, like our last Bissell, it seems like it will last a long time.

I have NO idea what''s up with this model.
SORRY THIS IS SO LONG- EDITED WITH UPDATE ON JULY 6, 2023: After waiting for them to get back to me by 6/28/2023 (the date they gave me) I ended up calling them again on 6/29/2023 and for some reason I had to go through the issues all over again with a new customer service agent. They again went through ALL the same steps as before; take it to a service place, send it back and they would send me a new one, etc. At this point I told them I would like another model sent as I didn't have any confidence in this model. They agreed to send me another new model that was comparable; they had me look at it on the website while we were on the phone. I told them to send me a return label and I would send this one back and they could send me the new model. They then told me to "dispose of the machine". ??? Didn't they just tell me to send it back a minute ago? this makes me pretty sure they tried to fix the other one I sent back and then resent it to me. So, I got the "NEW" vacuum last Saturday (7/1/2023 - pretty fast since they didn't even call me back like they said they would..) and they sent me a USED machine. It had fingerprints all over it and it was dusty on the bottom part and the hose that came with it was as well. I was disappointment but I was just praying it worked. And of course, the back wheels locked up and the left one didn't want to move at all. At this point I almost wanted to cry, but I just didn't have the energy to call them yet again. I got the WD40 and tried to get the wheel to work. It's not perfect but at least it turns. It was completely locked up before. Hopefully this will work out, but this machine also has a 5 year warranty and I don't even want to jinx things by putting that out in the universe, but I will keep calling them until I get a working machine if I have to. They really won't want to keep hearing from me. Pray for me please. I'm so sick and tired of all this... I bought this in December 2022. Bissell is my go-to brand for vacuums as I've NEVER had issues with them. They've lasted YEARS until someone would physically break a part and we had to replace it. After a couple of months, the wire had frayed and after contacting Bissell they told me they would replace the machine and to throw out the old machine as it's a fire hazard (I did send them pictures as proof). Great. Got the new machine and it's fine. FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF MONTHS? The machine just stops turning on. The on/off button wasn't clicking and it just was dead. They sent me a return label and I sent the unit back. Keep in mind I had thrown the box out so I had to create a new box in order to send it back. They then sent me "a replacement machine after checking" the one I had sent back. They sent me the second replacement in April. Third times a charm right?? Last Friday (June 23, 2023) the machine died AGAIN. The SAME button issue as before. Now, I don't know if they just tried to fix the button and sent it back or if it's actually a new replacement. I called them and they told me they would have to "look into the problem as it's the third time" I've had "issues with this model". I am now waiting for them to get back to me, but it could take them until Wednesday so I had to go and buy another vacuum in the meantime because my parents are extremely immune compromised so the hepa filter and other features seemed perfect for our situation. I will see what they can do for me, but I cannot recommend this model at all.

I WISH I COULD BUY THIS VACUUM 100 TIMES
I cannot believe I never left a review for this. This vacuum is easily one of the top 5, maybe top 3 purchases of my entire adult life. I don't think I could adequately express how much I love this vacuum in words. I have had the absolute PLEASURE of using this vacuum for about 3 months now, and I have not one singular complaint. I keep a very clean house and vacuum once a week at minimum and when I say I can run this over my carpet 3x over and pull up dust and pet hair not visible to the naked eye, I mean it. I have 4 cats. This vacuum does a phenomenal job of getting up pet hair and any litter they track around the house. The canister is so easy to clean, it usually does not require sticking my hand up there to pull anything out. Hair does not wrap around the spin brush and that has been nice compared to other vacuums I've used in the past. The swivel head is SO GOOD for getting into tougher spots. If you think your vacuum doesn't need headlights, you're wrong. I can see SO much better. Another feature I noticed by happenstance was how great the suction really is. I had spot cleaned a stain on my carpet with some water and carpet cleaner, and even after dabbing up the excess liquid, I could visibly see the vacuum sucking up even MORE water from the carpet that wasn't able to be seen or felt. The attachments are fantastic, particularly the one for vacuuming furniture. It sucked up every bit of pet hair with ease. Fully assembled, it's fairly lightweight and easy to maneuver around the house. The enclosed HEPA filter is something that really sold me on this vacuum as an allergy sufferer. It doesn't kick back any debris when using, and no stinky smell escapes like some older vacuums. I also like the option to change the mode for either carpet or hardwood. It works perfectly on every surface I've used it on. The only ONLY thing I would change about this vacuum is I wish it had a retractable cord that sucked itself up, but it would still get 100 stars from me. They could charge even more for this vacuum. This vacuum was not even within my means. I financed it, and I have no regrets. Pry this vacuum from my cold, dead hands. Cremate me with this vacuum. Buy this vacuum.

Bissell's used to be well made ... not so much anymore.
The suction and cleaning is good .. But product quality, seems very cheaply made. Very thin plastic. I've owned Bissell's for years and though this seems to work well, I wouldn't purchase again because of the appearing lack of quality.
