I can cast this baby almost 200-300 Yards and Love it for Surf Fishing. Smooth Retrieve and Excellent braking. You will burn your thumb if you're not careful but that's part of using a Conventional reel.. Practice with it will result in less burns. Very Durable design. The Gears are so Quiet when you Retrieve.

well made. haven't try it yet but will soon. Update, I've had this reel for a year now and it's well worth the price. This little gem paired with the right rod is a beast. Casting is smooth, I get casts over 100yrds so easy, the mag works, I think people have to understand mags and need to change adjustments when using different weights, also line size also affects speed. I use 30lb 4 strand braid and caught 47 pound tarpon no issues. Great reel. Looking to buy a second.

I paired this reel up to my Penn Carnage iii 10’ surf rod and the reel seat fit. It’s imperative that you turn the reel retaining screws in the correct position so they fit over the reel seat. The black plastic reel clamp had to be slightly filed to ease the retaining bolts onto the screws. The reel continuously receives great reviews so checkout the numerous “YouTube” reviews to see if this model will fit your requirements. The combination of the lighter reel and rod will allow for a full days fishing for most Angers. This reel was the Squall ii star drag Casting Special.

Casts very smooth. Will take some practice to cast the distance that I want. I’m going to use it on a 12 ft carbon fiber Ugly Stik. I’m eager to try it out!

I bought this to replace a reel that my father used for years. He passed away some time ago and I found his Penn 309 reel sitting on a rod that was literally falling apart. The reel itself has to be 30+ years old and spent about half of that sitting outside on the side of his house. I cleaned it out and it works fine but the retrieve was too slow for me. Seeing as how long that reel held up I decided to buy my own upgrade. this Squall II casting special is great. Not too long but holds a good amount of line for the type of fishing I do. I gave it 4 stars because the bait alert would get stuck and just didn't work so well out of the box. I opened it up and greased the mechanism and now it works great. I absolutely love this real. I can only hope that in 30+ years I can hand it over to one of my kids or maybe even one of theirs. Lol

Great reel, delivered on time. Though taking a couple of days to despatch it (presumably to try to make me buy Prime) is a bit sad. If it genuinely took all week to get to me because of slow post thats one thing, but holding it back so it appeared to take 5 days when actually it took three from despatch to arival....a bit mealy mouthed?

Received the reel this morning. Thought I was buying a new reel but I received a used one. Box was open and there are some blemishes on it. Especially on the reel seat and some light scratches on the top. There was also a bit of line still on the spool. Seems like it was mounted on a display handle at one point. It's not enough to warrant sending it back but for the price, I'm a bit disappointed.
