Slick presentation about the unthinkable (but imaginable)
A hefty book in paperback, but well-done. Excellent art that describes impossible things. Lines just thick enough to not mar the figures, and an overall simplicity favoring smooth geometric shapes. Lots of interesting textures in evocative scenes. And tension throughout. The story is both heart-breaking and heart-warming as it develops. The reader has to survive along with these kids, who are left alone when "separatists" kill the crew of a colony-bound ship from an Earth that has become unlivable. The ship itself, with it's resident AI named [Valerie] assumes protection of the children as their journey to the new colony world is only half-over and teaches them to do what must be done to ensure their future. Valerie's protocols were reset in order to deal with the emergency, so she struggles to take care of and provide for the unfortunate children of the former crew. But their troubles aren't over and it's still a long way to the colony world. Adventures! And the kids (who are so cute) must grow up to work for their own survival. [Valerie] is an AI you might like to meet in the future!

Powerful and engaging
Jeff Lemire never disappoints. The powerful storytelling with the pacing of the story with the panels is a great reminder than graphics novels can be better than novels in telling an interesting story. The art by Walta is top level and it what made me more engaged with the story and wanting more with every page.

Great read
Such a good story could not put it down I wanted to stretch it out but I just read through the whole thing. Very compelling , very edge of your seat. If you like sci-fi, this is for you.

young children lost in the vastness of space with nothing but the AI that loves them.
A touching story of a group of young children lost in the vastness of space with nothing but the AI that loves them.Thank you to #NetGalley and TKO Studios for providing a copy of this for me to review. All opinions are my own.I have to say, I was not expecting the dark parts of this story to be as raw as they were, considering the content dealt with children but I’m glad that it tried to stay real and honest about the reality of what might have happened in this scenario. Overall, Sentient is reminiscent of I Am Mother and Illuminae, mixing themes of unreliable narrators, children lost in space, and being raised by AI to bring a new approach to the story. The art is gritty in a way that grows on you and ultimately leaves you wanting more from the story. My only hold ups have been how unclear the timing of events taking place were - though when you consider the narrator of the story was likely 9 years old when the narrative starts, it makes sense he might not have that completely figured out.All in all, Sentient was a great read, easily gotten through in one sitting and I would recommend it to anyone interested in sci-fi with a bit of psychological horror (only lightly!), and the exploration of setting as character.CW: child endangerment, death, terrorism, lost in space

Ignore the top review, the guy received the wrong item. This is a great hardcover
This is a standard hardcover graphic novel, and it's amazing. I BURNED through this book so fast. It's amazing! I love Jeff Lemire and the kid characters were realistic and sympathetic. I liked the art a LOT and the hardcover is shiny and cool :)
