Small. Easy set up.
..I love Wargames, but most games are too big. Take too long to set up. Too long to play.I thought I'd try this folio game. The map is small enough to fit on a card table. The Card driven movement system makes the game more unpredictable. You can rarely move ALL of your units!!!Some rules are a little unclear. I'm not sure exactly which units can withdraw from combat (or how exactly) and I'm unclear on some victory conditions.Does the game end immediately when the 4th Union Unit is killed, or the 6th Indian unit is killed???Seems like a short game if that's the case. Combat is deadly because you keep rolling until one side or the other is all "panicked" and retreats, or is "destroyed."Or maybe I'm not doing enough to avoid combat unless there's an overwhelming advantage???The Union player outnumbers the Indians 2:1 but can usually only move 1 of the three columns, because of the card driven game system!!!Anyway. I played 3 games. The 1st game only went two turns to try to understand the rules. The Union drew a Terry Card on turn 1 and the 7th Cavalry advanced ahead of the rest of the Column, only to be destroyed on turn 2. Sound familiar???I played 2 more games. It seems that the Union can't win if the Indians concentrate and outnumber the weakest Union Column, because they can only take 4 killed units. And the Indians can take 6 before they lose. Plus the indians can win a geographical victory if they immediately move West!!!I'll try again with the Union trying to avoid Combat unless they have a huge advantage, or figure out how the Union can build a fort before they take too many losses???....
