Ideal Security Spring-Loaded Screen Door Catch, Zinc Plated

Just too cheaply made!
I'm a fan of screen doors. Not the big, heavy storm doors with the fancy closer cylinders and slide-up window glass. Just a plain old wooden screen door, like was everywhere when I was a kid. But screen doors can bounce, and they're easy to open -- a bit too easy when there's a nosy in-house cat around. One of those snap latches would be the trick!I bought one at the local hardware store a couple years ago and put it on the back door screen on the house. We love it! Dependable and secure for years now!I bought this one on Amazon thinking it was a good deal, but it is not a good deal. It's been installed on the screen door on my shop for maybe two months, and it's already falling apart and failing to function. Instead of providing an actual through pin for the pivot on this thing, they relied on a couple of dents stamped into the jaw which fit into a pair of holes. I'm sure it's cheap to make. And I'm sure it's junk.Back to the local hardware store for me!

its ok...
Updated!!!Installed in less than 2 minutes. Had it installed for a few days now no issues. Please keep in mind this is the main door we use as a family. Its been installed a few weeks on the screen door into our garage. I've had to "adjust" it almost every week because it won't keep the door closed. The spring loaded arm keeps jumping out of the pivot holes, this means the arm gets stuck either half way open or closed. The metal is WEAK and won't hold up to everyday use. I will keep tweaking it until it fails completely. I don't expect this item to last more than a month or 2 tops.

Just what I was looking for
Easy to install and works great. Keeps my new vinyl screen door in place so it does not flap in the wind. The spring is actually pretty tight. Of course, it will not keep a toddler or large dog from opening the door. Just the wind like it is meant for.

Meh, shoulda bought something else.
Mostly okay. Don't ever bump into it with anything or it will bend and fail to open far enough to stay until the door shuts. Fortunately the metal is flimsy enough you can bend it back to proper shape (by hand!) to get it working about 1.3 steps above unusable. It is nothing compared to the 15 year old catch it replaced.

Weak spring
I installed this on my screen door in Gulf Coast. The first 17kt wind, this blew right open. We have to lock the door, even with the spring catch.

A classic, but...
Same type of closure I've used for more than half a century. Why not 5 stars? No mounting directions in the package, leaving me to guess on position.

ABSOLUTELY SATSIFIED
I live in South Africa and we have a security gate that had one of these catches on but the rubber wheel had perished from age. I struggled to find a catch locally. I looked at every hardware store, I surfed the net and was very despondent when I couldn't find one in South Africa. I eventually looked on Amazon and lo and behold, I found one. Within a week I had 3 delivered to my door. I have replaced the old one with a new one and it works perfectly.

I am thrilled!
I tried to find this for years. Described it in harware stores and no one knew what I meant. Well this is IT! It is perfect. Keeps my cats and little dogs in with no fiddling no impossible hardware install. Keeps the door closed and no banging from the gorge wind.

Old school latch but works really well
The media could not be loaded. I have a couple of screen doors on my gazebo that have a snap in latch. Any bit of wind and they pop open. On windy days they fly open and smash around. I added these to the top of the door jam and they work great. The doors are staying closed, even in some pretty wild wind storms and when I pull the door to open it, this latch pops open to release the door, and snaps closed to secure the door when closed. Works great, it’s what I needed, I’m glad I bought them.

Bought to replace trailer hinge
I bought this to replace our door hinge on our pop-up trailer door. It seems to have a two-stage system, in that it hits step one, then will either (a) slowly close fully in step two, or (b) not close until manually pushing 2nd roller down to fully close door. Which is annoying when you have to watch it every time + you have kids who DON'T pay attention. I ended up with A LOT of flies this trip (annoying) inside the trailer. I did see a review with the hinge ON TOP so when I go back to the trailer, I will suggest this option to my husband. If it works well, I will update my review and rating. Three stars bc it is a fair price ($6.75) for a part and it works occasionally.

Light weight item
I would have preferred a heavier duty one but this is as advertised. The main trick with ordering this is ensure the thickness of your door will fit between the wheels. I believe the distance is answered in the Questions portion of the reviews.

Does the trick
Seems to be working great so far. Be nice if it came coated in something to prevent rusting. I'd be willing to pay more. But I would definitely buy this again.

10 months later - doesn't hold door closed
Didn't last a year. Won't hold screen door closed on porch, bugs fly in and the wind can blow the door open. Garbage.
