Smart. ‘Meta’ look at stories and genres and insanely entertaining
For those who like something a little 'different' in their picture books, this will give jaded adult readers something fresh to amuse them. And little ones too.A fearless knight is nonplussed when the dragon he intends to fight turns out to have gone away for some 'me' time - just how will he have his adventure now??Fortunately the One-Stop Story Shop is nearby, and open for business: "wigs, wands, characters, plots and more!" But they've sold out of dragons, so our knight must search farther afield... feisty ferret anyone? And maybe a space chase adventure? Or should he be a cowboy? The ferret, the horse, and other new storybook characters follow the knight as he searches for his perfect adventure. Will he find what he's looking for?Just so bloomin' fun and with a wonderful, wonderful moral, about looking outside your confines, using your imagination, exploring the wide world, and finding new friends while you do it. My son was beaming as much as I was at the end.One of my new favourites. Tony Neal brings the zaniness out in his illustrations too, a Hercules-like knight, very prim dragon, adorable ferret, and a slew of story scenes to tease out the imagination in young children. For ages 3-7. And anyone a little tired of the same old 'once upon a times'.

A hilarious and fun filled tale.
I always know if I want to capture the attention of children that a picture book written by Tracey Corderoy is bound to be a winner and ‘The One-Stop Story Shop,’ is no exception. When a fearless knight goes hunting for a dragon to slay he is dismayed to discover that his sworn enemy has gone on holiday. What can he do his story is stuck? Best head to The One-Stop Story Shop to help finish his tale but instead of a dragon he’s offered a fearsome ferret and he soon finds himself swept away on a most unexpected of adventure. We travel from the deep dark woods to deep space, from wild west to the wild jungle on a thrilling an exciting search for an ending to the Knight’s quest. A real romp for the imagination, you can’t help but get swept away on this unlikely ride. Tony Neal’s illustrations capture the hilariousness and unexpectedness of this story magnificently. Bursting with colour and energy they demand to be pored over time and time again. A hilarious and fun tale filled with heart and featuring an unlikely but charming friendship, this story is a sheer delight.
