Enigma II Encryption Machine Size Large - Encode and Decode Secret Messages

First saw this in an escape room, and had to have one for family fun.It is beautifully designed and crafted!

What I just received is very disappointing. This looks absolutely nothing like what was shown on the website. This reminds me of something that you make in Woodshop class in junior high.

It's curious that this machine is called the "Enigma II" since the original German Enigma is superior in every measurable way. The cipher is poly-alphabetic with a period of two: a fact quickly and easily identifiable upon examination of any produced ciphertext (via Friedman's index of coincidence). Once a cryptanalyst recognizes that fact: messages of non-trivial length (or multiple shorter messages) can then be recovered via simple frequency analysis. Unless you're sending very few messages which are all very short - you should not count on your key being secure (in fact, only about twice as secure as the cryptograms you might find in a Sunday paper). That said, I suppose it might make a good (and educational) childrens' toy.

Very good quality. Great tool for demonstrating early encryption. My grandkids love creating secret codes and having me decipher them.

A great gift for anyone interested in cipher encryption or World War II. A good choice for anyone looking for something slightly more complex & powerful than a cipher disk but less expensive than some of the higher Enigma priced models. I cannot see how anyone would be displeased with the craftsmanship. I own 3 different items from this seller and I am quite pleased with them all.
