As a newcomer to the laboratory this is the kind of book i keep at home and swat up on from day to day when i come across a new procedure. It is very modern and comprehensive. There are also various companion volumes which deal with other stages of the laboratory process like cloning. On the negative side, these books are fairly expensive, and the protocols available in your own laboratory anyway. That said, so much information is passed on informally from the seniors in the lab its easy to forget the way sometimes. The other thing against the book is the ready availability of information on the internet but that often lacks the rigoruous editorial control of a book and there are numerous extra insights in this book.
