Works great with only a couple small things.

This little gadget saved our hay load. We vale small squares and it rained as we were baling. We were able to easily test each bale before it went into the barn. Ones that were too wet got set aside and fed immediately.A couple of tips:• when you start the probe hold it away from your body or any object until it reads 0.00• test your bales on the cut end for the easiest insertion into the bale. Don’t try and force it into the ends or top.• test a bale in several places if you are in doubt. I found some of my wetter bales had dryer spots so I did three spots (middle of the bale and about 1/3 of the way on either side).• if you’re tester doesn’t go back to 0.00 between insertions make sure there is no hay stuck on the probe - it will make a difference. And the only things I don’t like are the probe only stays on for a couple of minutes and you have to turn it on repeatedly. If you have gloves in then you are taking gloves on and off a lot. And, secondly, the unit is a little delicate or flimsy. It feels like it would be easy to break if not well cared for or if you tried to jam it into a well packed bale.Otherwise, it did exactly what we needed it to do. A great little gadget.

Can save you a lot of money

I purchased this after wasting over $450 on hay that I bought when it was too wet and didn't cure. Now I have a barn full of moldy hay. If I had this meter then, I could have saved myself all that time, anxiety, and money. Hay that is less than 20% is great; anything over that should be used within a few days of baling. I've introduced this meter to another hay farmer, and he's going to get one too.Just be careful to take off the dumb little plastic tip covers - I've lost them in a bale of hay and have to keep on the lookout for em.

Not accurate

It does not read accurate. Will read 30% moisture. Pull out, put back in and reads 90%.

Not for wood pellets

Purchased this meter to test homemade wood fuel pellets. The meter didn't work well for pellets. May work better for different applications.

Its goodI stabbed 500 bales of straw and its still in one piece. The average straw /hay moisture meter is way...way... over priced.I could build one for about 40 dollars in electronic parts. Its a constant current source and a voltmeterwith a micro display. Most other units cost 400 dollars...Wow..unreal...rip... I almost built my own. This has a reasonable price . It a real working unit. It works

Works great! I have used it multiple times with the pre-bale tightly packed bucket test and with bales shortly after baling. I found that I had been baling way too dry and am now getting significantly better bales.
