Abridged and confusing explains no context.
This looks like a book that copied from an open source gutenberg archive. It doesn't provide notes or context so you there's no reference to the characters. The names are in the old school style of literal translation, so Izanagi and Izanami are Male-Who-Invites and Female-Who-Invites. Not the sort of text I personally want to read when using it at source material. If you are a scholar and looking for the specific translation in book form, by all means. If you thought you were saving money by getting this rather than another copy of the Kojiki, don't waste your time.

Terrible, dated, translation
Absolutely horrific to read this. The names and some are translated literally from Japanese to english, in a way that is honestly kind of infuriating and very distracting. When I say literally, I mean VERY literally. Instead of a name like Amaterasu for example, it says "shining-over-heavens" and it does that for EVERY proper name, every time. You will be lucky to read one Japanese word in this book, I'm honestly surprised it's even called Kojiki and not "Japanese chronicles" on the cover.Avoid this copy at all costs, the book is cheaply made and thin anyway. Came in warped, and has no text on spine.

This is one of the most important texts in early Japanese history, and BH Chamberlain's translation, while difficult to read, is a seminal work. That said, this edition is terrible. It's a poorly OCR'ed preprint that someone slapped a low-quality print for the cover and called theirs. It is lacking many features of the academic editions and is filled with typographical errors.

Not worth it
This "book" is incredibly abridged. Translation issues make it difficult to read and if you have ANY Japanese historical/cultural knowledge or background it is disapointing and frustrating to read. For future translators; don't translate the Japanese names to their literal English meanings!

This translation is awkward. Almost every sentence is a mouthful of rocks. It's also available online for free (public domain). It doesn't help that there are typos every page or so.

Three Stars
Not a great translation.

Short and sweek
The Kojiki is one of the first pieces of literature in Japanese history. Anyone wanting to understand Japanese history absolutely needs a copy. As a Westerner interested in Shinto, this was an absolute godsend.

Be aware of this possibly spurious edition of the Kojiki!
Be aware that the quality of THIS VERSION (cover has black background) is very poor. There are many errors of spelling, punctuation, typesetting, even grammar in this apparently Print-On-Demand book, so many in fact that it certainly cannot be a properly published work. There is no publisher's page. I had to return it. It should be removed from Amazon as a defective item. It's upseting that someone would put together such a sloppy version of such an important book for Japanese history.

買うんじゃなかった
一番、安価のしたらこれです。お話し間違えて書かれてるところありますよ。多少、お金を払ってもキチンとした英訳した本を購入した方がいいです。
