HiFiBerryDigi+ Standard Version Digital Sound Card for Raspberry Pi 2 Model B/B+ / A+ with Toslink and Coax Connection

Mounted the hat on a new RPI4, inserted an sd card with an existing and configured Volumio instance, selected *snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi" in the Volumio playback options/output device dropdown, connected an sp/dif cable from the digi hat sp/dif socket to my Shiit Modi3+ dac, and played music!Couldn't be much easier than that!Sound quality definitely improved using sp/dif over the RPI USB output direct to DAC USB input.I should have bought the pro version though, it has an extra clock chip that avoids conversions in certain bit rates 44.1 vs. 48khz.Oh well I will likely buy the pro version next.

This is simply an update to the existing reviews, as of June 2017, to note that this card works perfectly well with the Raspberry Pi 3, to provide higher-quality, SPDIF digital output (either via optical TOSLINK or RCA Coaxial connections). If your A/V receiver has available TOSLINK or RCA SPDIF inputs, this is the ideal solution to bypass the Pi's poor-quality onboard DAC.I'm using it as a dual-purpose Squeezebox (Logitech Media Server) and Squeezelite (Squeezebox player). LMS has no trouble automatically finding the resulting Squeezelite player. If you're using this combo, go to the LMS settings and set the player's output to fixed 100%, and use your audio component(s) to control volume, for best results.The steel case, also made and sold by HiFiBerry, completes the installation for a professional-looking device.

Bought this in 2017 and it outputs fantastic audio from my flac files. Due to network issues with the raspberry pi>lms system I use (i’m not a software engineer!) I replaced this with a $1000 network audio streamer. The sound from this is far superior and I’ve returned the high end streamer. Incredible fidelity and worth the time and effort to make it work

This works great on the Rasberry PI 3. Better make sure it works with your image file. Kodi works, Rasplex doesn't work! It gives the PI real Hifi.

Picked this up, hoping it would work with OSMC to get digital sound AND still get Composite out to a CRT. Was very easy to setup, just add one line to config.txt (the one printed right on the PCB), then change the sound output device in OSMC settings. No more buzzing and line noise on my personal MTV channel. Thanks!

Works well with MoOdeAudio 8.0. Great sound quality when used with an external Dac that prioritizes the spdif stream.

I think if you've got a raspberry pi and you want to expand the audio capability and sound quality then something like this is perfect. Your other alternatives are from allo and they certainly make a fine product but at four times the price. I certainly don't consider the sound quality of that four times better. I think in this hobby of hi-fi we reach pretty quickly a plateau Of good enough and anything beyond that is just excess. Overall I'm quite happy and satisfied with the hi-fi berry And I'd buy it again and recommend it to friends.

I am using Hifiberry Digi+ for almost an year, it works as advertised.My setup included:1. Raspberry Pi 3B2. HiFi Berry3. Klipsch Power Amp (does not have HDMI input)4. Sony SSCS5 speakers5. Sony Powered subAll works well, only when I used HDMI extractor from Amazon basic, to run HDMI from PI to Amazon Basic HDMI audio extractor and run the optical to Klipsch amp.The sound is significantly better with HDMI instead of the optical output from the Hifiberry. Hifiberry sound is flat (as compared to HDMI) & I feel I had to dial down the volume knob by 20% after switching to HDMI.I use Moode audio player & with exactly same setup\setting HDMI is superior.So if you are looking for Raspberry PI based players, try out HDMI audio extractor instead.
