Great tool ,works really well well.

This has come in handy so many times. I use to open jars or containers that are so hard to get open. My hands aren't strong enough. I originally got it to hold the handguns so I can open them to clean. I had help installing it on the work bench because it's really heavy. He did a great job.

I've needed a vise for years and finally put together a work bench where I could mount one. Now, I couldn't afford to take out a 2nd on my house and spend $12,000 on a vise, so I set out to get as much bang for my limited bucks as I could. After hours of shopping around and reading reviews, I finally settled on the IRWIN, 5-inch, Multi-Purpose Bench Vise, primarily because of impressive specs, insightful reviews, plus I like the color. Well, the IRWIN was absolutely the best choice I could have made. It may not be worth $12,000, but you'd never know it by me. It's heavy, extremely well made, and beautifully packed for shipping. This vise was obviously made by craftsman, proud of their product and proud of their work. Plus, it's a cool color.

This is a nice heavy duty name brand vise. I bought it for my son as a gift. He is very pleased with it. It's quite versatile in that you can swivel the head just about anyway imaginable. It is also equipped with a pipe jaw, which again, you can rotate this to the top. Not too many vises can do that. It won't disappoint you.

For starters I think this vise is good for the price. It has some quirks and you're welcome to spend several thousand dollars to avoid those- for reals. I just received the vise but I am a seasoned fabricator with a large set of tools. I will update this review as time goes on. One thing I noticed right away, the pipe/tube clamp (vise) should have 2 axes, one is the blue cast jaws and the other the machined raw steel. The machined steel clamp is really only good for the depth of the machined jaws themselves, as you can see in the pictures I've provided, the blue casting is in the way of having your material go deeper into the jaws and still be secured by the raw steel. This isn't a deal breaker because you can rotate the vise on the "x" axis which allows you to secure round stock (pipe/tube) in the cast blue jaws in an vertical or horizontal position.

So far so good. The big concern with all of these low end vices is durability, mainly the jaws breaking since they are hollow and made of cast steel. The steel in this Vice is supposedly made of the higher grade cast steel which is in the neighborhood of 65,000 psi. I bought this particular Vice because a friend has it mounted on his service truck and has used(abused) it daily for over a year. He hammers on steel pieces when fabricating for repairs on dock levelers, etc and it has not broken yet. I really like the pipe jaw and all the angles you can swivel the Vice to. The jaws close up very precisely and stay tight. Also has a lifetime warranty. Very pleased with the Vice so far.

This is a huge lump of metal for the money. I have a 3.5" fixed position vice on my bench. I can mostly make do with it, but I was interested in having a horizontally rotating vice to orientate the work pieces more conveniently for end-on work. But this offered even more. It rotates in both planes and includes a pipe gripper which I can definitely take advantage of. With the old vice, I would carefully position the pipe in the jaws and try not to dislodge it.This one also opens a lot wider. It should give me more options and be a lot easier to use in general.
