Gets you out of the expensive proprietary parts trap. Your engine will likely live longer, too.
Proprietary parts? Yuck. Poor science behind them? Even more yuck!OK, it's a bit messy to do the initial install, but once you do you'll never look back. Just get a pile of rags before you begin. For those of you who don't understand the problem, Deere is selling a quick-change oil-and-filter gizmo for well over $50 in my area. Yes, you get a new filter, but it only changes out a fraction of the old oil. So you put a clean filter and some new oil onto your engine still filled with dirty oil. This is a bad idea. I worked for 13 years in the lubricants industry and could go on for hours about this. But, to be fair, Deere has made it easy for the lazy to do at least some good with their easy change system.Installation of the kit will take a while. I think I spent half an hour doing it. Big issue was finding tools that fit. How many of you have a 28mm socket? But, an adjustable wrench held just right can get it done. Similarly on the filter nipple that you have to install. There's a popular video site on the InterWeb for YouToBeSeeing that has a lot of good tips for those of us that don't have a $20,000 shop at our disposal.Once you've converted, oil changes are now down to a common spin-on oil filter that costs maybe a dozen bucks and two quarts of common automotive engine oil. Oil changes now cost 50%-70% less. And ALL of the old oil is swapped out. This is the way to go. A trade a bit of inconvenience on day one for continued savings and better health of your expensive tractor for the rest of its (potentially longer) life.

This kit will help ensure reliability and longevity of your engine.
Three years ago, I purchased a John Deere (JD) E120. At the time, the Easy Change ™ 30-Second oil filter was $30. Now it is $50, a lot of money for a filter that requires replacement each season (according to the owner’s manual) and only replaces about 1/2 quart of oil. I had also been having concerns about engine longevity and reliability by replacing such a small amount of oil. This season, I decided to revert to the conventional oil change system and purchased theJohn Deere OEM Easy Change Conversion Kit to do so.As you can see, it comes with everything you need, Oil Filter, Drain Tube and Adapter Fitting The drain tube has a twist lock cap with o-ring seal to which makes draining oil easier.Additionally, you will also need:8mm socket with 3" extension or nut driver to remove the side plastic covers1 1/8 socket to remove the JD filter adaptor (an adjustable wrench can also be used).12mm hex wrench to tighten the adapter fitting (A 3/8" socket extension can be substituted)14mm socket to remove the existing drain plug15/16" socket to tighten the new drain tubePlumbing Teflon tapeThreadlocker Red 271Drain pan small enough to fit under the enginePlenty of shop towelsBrake cleaner (the cheap stuff is more than adequate)2-quarts of 10W30 oil (conventional oil can be used but I prefer synthetic)I also suggest putting down some cardboard or plastic under the engine area to contain the inevitable oil spillage.Installation was simple and straightforward. There are a number of detailed videos online that details the process. Before starting the process, I opted to siphon as much oil as possible out of the crankcase using a small hand siphon pump. This reduces unavoidable spillage when removing the JD filter adapter and drain plug.Despite diligently changing the filter annually per the owner's manual, the 1.5 quarts of oil that I removed from the crankcase was almost black which confirmed my concerns about the inadequacy of the Easy Change ™ system.Teflon tape was used on the drain plug to ensure no leakage. Theadlocker Red was used on the adapter fitting to ensure it did not come off when removing the filter. What spillage that did occur on the chassis was easily cleaned with the brake cleaner and shop towels.Lawn tractors are not an inexpensive investment and replacing a $50, obviously inefficient oil filter each year only adds to the cost while increasing the risk of pre-mature engine failure. With the JD OEM conversion kit, I am assured the engine is being better lubricated with a new filter AND fresh oil each season which increases reliability and potential longevity. Additionally, the conventional oil filter and 2 quarts of oil is half the price of the Easy Change ™ system.NOTE: Please dispose of the old oil and filter responsibly.

Works great!
I get the easy-oil-filtrr install but it doesn't really get all the oil when replaced. It's also pretty expensive if I had to do it every year. I have an E120 and I have kept up with most of the maintenance. It's at 82 hrs now and before I start cutting grass this year I decided to do a full maintenance. Overall I think JD and Briggs could've designed the usability better. Installing this kit was a bit messing. It would've been worse if I didn't siphon out most of the oil. There are videos on how to install this kit but I'll give one major tip. To remove the oil drain plug, I just used a 1/2" extension and a big adjustable wrench. I didn't need a socket at all. Ok one more tip, make sure to clean all the oil from the pulley. Better yet, just put an oil absorbent pad above the pulley to catch the oil the will spill down. I wish there were a little bit more room to install the new oil filter. Other than that, the kit works really well. I would recommend it.

Exactly What You Need to Convert Quick Change Filter on John Deere to Old Fashion Filter
Without getting too technical, if you own certain models John Deere garden tractors, they have a oil filter with the oil already in it and it's called a quick change with no mess or runny oil, and it is true, I've used them. However my John Deere E130 model holds 2 full quarts plus a little extra in the filter. Problem is the quick change oil filter only allows you to change just 1 quart of oil, so all the dirty oil in the tractor never get's out of there. With this kit above you can change the engine back to taking a regular filter and at the same time drain all the oil out of the engine so you'll have all fresh oil at an oil change. There is an excellent video on YouTube that shows you how to do this conversion. Pretty easy if you have some minor mechanical ablilty. Took me about 40 minutes to do.

Great conversion kit for my S120
No more gimmicky filter with half the oil needed to complete an “oil change.” Very pleased with this kit and now I can extract all the used oil and add all new fresh oil when changing it annually.
