Its not just about the caffeine
You're probably like me and entered into the search bar "high caffeine coffee" and upon looking at all the options, you go for the ones with the most amount of high reviews, read a few, and order accordingly. I have my staples, but I like the old saying goes, "You don't know what you don't know", so I'm constantly trying out new brands. So you look at Raven's brew and think 'ehhhh...only 800 review? I dunno..." I'm on my 4th order at the time of this writing, giving me a pretty decent sample of quality reliability. I also am writing this review from the perspective of a consumer who has not only a obsessive love affair with coffee, but a high caffeine tolerance, for me to get that charged state, I typically have to consume twice as much as the average person. Boy am I glad I gave this a try. While I confess what I was looking for was something to turbo charge my mental processes for those sluggish days where as a self employed person, I -NEED- to get stuff done, and given my high caffeine tolerance this takes more than standard coffee. The copy on Deadman's Reach suggested I definitely found what I was looking for, but to blunt about my expectations, I figured that it'd likely not taste all that great. I was so very -very- wrong. Deadman's is a *great* tasting dark roast, but it does matter how you brew it. I possess an absurd number of ways to brew coffee and even espresso, but my favorite is pour over. Putting Deadman's through a ordinary coffee drip coffee maker or a Keurig (something I used to be a raving fan of) is like drinking fine wine from a sweaty cowboy boot. It becomes too acidic, loses a great deal of it's flavor depth, coming across more as char than coffee. But with a pour over or even a french press, the flavor is downright sultry, smooth and commanding of attention. Worth noting: I don't drink this every day, I have my other go-to brand for daily use, Deadman's is a combination of need for the higher octane and committing to knocking down important goals AFTER I've had a meditative 20 minutes of intimate savoring of my Deadmans. I'm completely serious, the flavor grabs me and makes the cup something I focus on and savor while pondering what I have to prioritize and absolutely get done. Then, after the last sip...its -ON-!! So does it give you a turbo boost? Let me put it this way, after a cup I get out my Batman cape and get busy. A 2nd cup? Tony Stark's got nothing on me. 3rd cup...sorry can't say, never had more than 2 But the real magic of Deadmans (IMO) is how you get that kind of kick with such sultry, rich flavor. (again method matters). Value: Ok this isn't cheap, at $15 for 12 oz of beans it's totally understandable if you said to yourself "Pfft...too much." However this is a *definite* case of quality over quantity. You won't be drinking this all day, 1 cup for those days you're just dragging tail and you just know your usual morning caffeine fix is not going to cut it... 2 cups on your zombie days. So these 12 oz actually go further because you literally drink less of it, even if you're a religious coffee consumer like I am. This 12 oz bag lasts as long as my 2lb bags do, despite how great it tastes, I hit the Deadman's only 2-3x a week. Each occasion is an event for me, I don't drink this on auto-pilot, I savor the mug as I scheme to take over the world knowing when I'm at the bottom of the cup, it's go time. And as mentioned above, on my 4th bag over a 5 month period. Each has been outstanding in freshness and flavor, the bloom is almost a mushroom cloud. The beans I've bought roast to order aren't any fresher, seriously...this is true coffee snob quality. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Best Coffee I've Ever Had. Really...
I'm saddened to see accusations of fake reviews and a wave of negative reviews for Deadman's Reach. I can only assume this is competitors trying to regain some ground. This is unfortunate, because I try new products based largely on amazon reviews, and would never have taken a chance on this fantastic coffee had the latest reviews been posted at the time I was searching. That said, I have no affiliation with Ravens Brew. Suggesting that this review is illegitimate, or coerced is insulting and a blow to the legitimacy of the Amazon Review program entirely. DR really is the best coffee I've ever tried. I'm not a fan of extreme dark roasts, or extreme lite ones. To me, this is the perfect roast. It's rich, chocolaty, and complex; all without the slightest hint of bitterness. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's bitter coffee. Here's how I make it: + using a normal Mr Coffee blade grinder: http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Coffee-IDS57-4-Grinder-Black/dp/B00005OTXM/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1329666521&sr=8-20 + Fill beans to top of grinder chamber with a small bluge over the horizontal. Reduces to ~3/4cu when ground. + hold grind button for 11 seconds. No shaking, tapping, bumping, etc needed + prepare in Bunn auto-drip office type coffee maker using 64oz of water There's nothing bad I can say about Deadman's Reach. Very highly recommended - 100% legitimate review - ignore the negative (probably fake in my opinion) reviews and try this coffee - you won't regret it. [Update 5/30/13] - I'm very disturbed to see accusations of false reviews and a wave of negative reviews dragging the reputation of this remarkable coffee down.

Best Coffee Ever
I've been using Raven's Brew since I discovered it on an Alaskan cruise in the 90's. Might seem odd to drink coffee from Alaska, but they don't grow it there. Don't; be afraid of "Deadman's Reach", you don't have to be dead to drink it. Best coffee I've ever had. And when I order the 5-pound bag, it comes the very next day.

Strong, bold, and amazing flavor.
This coffee has a strong, bold, and amazing flavor. I freshly grind my coffee every morning and brew up a pot in my French press. I have kicked the exspensive coffee shops to the curb. The full flavor has a much better taste then the mocha Chino blah blah b.s. you spend 7 bucks on at the coffee shop. Much more convenient enjoying a cup in my Finding Nemo boxers then getting dressed, driving across town and spending $15 on gas and overpriced coffee! This could be life saving if your nearest coffee shop is in downtown Chicago. Just saying.

Coffee! Good coffee! It’s will spoil your taste for less.
My wife and I take coffee VERY seriously. It’s not only part of our daily routine but the treat we look forward to on a daily basis. With that, we’ve tried many types of brands and makes and have even evolved a rating scale. That independent brand we found in a really cool record shop that looked interesting, that was a two out of five. Starbucks Verona, pretty good, four. Now, Deadmans Reach, four and a half! (Yes, we left room for coffee touched by God) We don’t get it very regularly, but when we do it’s a stop what you’re doing situation. Rich, smooth, perfect low notes, hints of this and that, no bitter aftertaste, a perfect blend. We did once order it directly from Ravens Brew and it might have been slightly better, but I could be wrong. Either way, yes, try it! You will not be disappointed.
