The White Mare (Dalriada, Book 1)

Just the right mix of fact and fantasy
Loosely based on historic events, the era of Roman occupation of Britain and attempted occupation of Scotland comes alive with the sagas of Eremon and Rhiann. Jules Watson has brought just the right mix of fantasy and fact to this gracefully written novel. Ancient Scottish lore comes alive and I found myself mixing my reading with historic and geographic research so that I could picture the scenes (having visited Scotland on a number of occasions). I loved the characters, both their strengths and weaknesses, and was drawn into them. Through all the triumphs and tragedy, I was left feeling uplifted and optimistic, and very ready to delve into the second novel of the trilogy.

Great Reading
I find it very hard to find the types of books I like to read, so when I found Jules Watson, and a trilogy I was wrapped. The story flowed through each of the books to the conclusion with ease, and it was easy to follow. I did try to look up one of the words used throughout the books, a stor, but with no luck. It must be some term of endearment because of the context in which it sas used. The historical information behind the book was great.

A little choppy in the middle, but great ending
I found the book easy to get into but in parts as it switched around from place to place it was easy to lose track of who was who. There was quite a bit of jumping around in the middle and lots of characters to try and keep track of. It had a very satisfying ending and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

My favorite book for capturing the essence of the ancient celtic ...
My favorite book for capturing the essence of the ancient celtic message, a message for our time of honoring the land and respect for the wisdom of the goddess, The Mother, our precious Earth.
