Does the key come out when the chain is unlocked? This is my second one where the key stays inside the chamber when the lock is unlocked.

No. You have to unlock and then remove key

Key lock verses digital code locks?

I only use bike locks once in a while and typically for short periods of time. Like a quick stop for lunch. For this application I like keys. I tend to lose track of combinations over time. Especially when they are hanging in my basement for a year or more. Keys stay in the lock when not being used so I don't have to have a system for keeping track of combinations.
