is the squeak feature optional?

Within the first 5 minutes of my daughter using this toy my husband was searching for a way to get rid of the annoying squeaking sound (sounds just like a dog toy!). He figured out the 2 squeakers could be removed, however you do have to have small fingers to get in there and grasp them out (which luckily I do, so that solved the problem and now everyone is happy :)

would this be fun for a 6-7 year old?

Definitely! We bought for our 6 year old daughter for her birthday and she loved it. It's very durable and has withstood her 10 and 12 year old brothers playing with it as well. I highly recommend it!

Could a 2.5 year old use this toy?

I don't think so. They do have to have some balancing skills. My granddaughter is almost 5 and she can do it but not real long. Not sure if she could if she was 2.5.
