Can this device be upgraded to run android 8.0? it seems 8.0 is the minimum required os to run apple tv.

Thank you for your support! The current version of D3 is Android 7.0. If there is an update later, we will tell you again. You can use the headset to directly connect to the AppleTV set-top box, but it cannot be 4K.

Can i replace the usb to usb-c cord with a usb3 to usb-c cord for faster file transfer?

If it's a "U disk" to a "hard disk": then the interface specification of the U disk determines the transmission speed。

How do i connect this to ethernet? just usb or is it usbc in the charging port? samba does not work wirelessly for me.

You can connect thru either USB or wireless. Both work well. There is no ethernet port on this player.
