Bestauto Outboard Steering System

It was easy to install. Directions were good. Steering has never been smoother in my j14 Carolina skiff

I have a 1984 Skeeter bass boat with a 40 H.P. Mariner outboard. Well after 38 years the steering cable got too hard to steer. I bought this Bestauto steering system and my old cable said it was 9.5 ft. and I had heard to always round up so this steering cable was 10 ft. and it fit perfect! It looks like good quality and it was a complete kit with steering helm and wheel and it went on nice and now my steering works like new! Just glad I found this for such an old boat. Price was good and now I can go fishing knowing that my steering is reliable!

The media could not be loaded. The original on my boat, completely rusted and busted through the housing. This was a good replacement. It’s easier to just get a complete system like this with the stem and steering wheel as opposed to just finding a replacement cable. Remove your old one first and measure it before you order a new one. This one worked out perfectly on my 17 foot fishing boat. But very smooth steering system now. Install was fairly easy, mostly common sense, but the reference pictures in the instructions did help. I will update if there’s any issues with longevity but for now definitely five star.

My steering cable was seized and the gearbox was no longer available. This kit has everything you need to get you back on the lake. It has a small amount of play between turning left and right but it is better than nothing. Any other option would probably cost 5 or 6 hundred to do it properly so for 160.00 I’m ok with it. Make sure you pull your old cable off completely and measure it before ordering. I only needed a 13 foot but I ordered the 16 foot cable. I had to route the cable a little differently to use up the extra but it works good. The steering box is made so that it wedges itself into the original hole and then you tighten the bolts down onto it to pull it up tight. It’s a pretty neat design.I’m using it on a 1994 Sunbird Stinger 17ft ski boat that I’m fixing up.

Easy instal and works great! Just make sure you run the cord on the right side of box or it will steer backwards. Good product

Swapped out the worn out cable on my dad’s 1978 aeroglass that took all your body weight to turn. Now it turns with one finger, huge improvement. Get the correct measurements and install shouldn’t take more than an hour.

For the money this helm kit is great. I install this stuff for a living. Cable quality is the same or better than most brands in big catalogs. Steering wheel itself is cheap and flimsy plastic. That seems to be the only cheap part of the kit.

Worked perfect for my boat! It’s like having power steering for real but if you have the rack and pinion style make sure you order a foot longer then what your cable is

good quality and easy install , smooth turning , only issue was the measurement directions , my old was 14'6 and the order instructions said to go to the next longer length , a 14 would have fit better

everything seems good, cable turns smoothly. However, the bracket holding the helm needs to angled up for my boat. Fortunately, my old bracket works with the new system. Perhaps a shim block and two longer bolts would allow the option to change the angle. Charge an additional $2.50.
