does the jig master have a line guide to keep line even on the spool

Hi, No the jigmaster has no line leveler. Line levelers and magnetic brakes are great for beginners but if you wish to fish a lot you will want distance and control when you surfcast and dependability for dropline fishing or trolling. Once you learn to finger guide your line it will become second nature. Most of the currently available low cost reels don't cut it. I use an Abu Garcia and a Penn Jigmaster for most of my surfcasting. Both perform well and are 40+ years old. You could easily find parts although I bought parts along time ago and have enough for my grand kids lifetime. I surfcast the east coast and just come from Great Island,NC. I have several old Penns but start people out with an old Penn 10 magnetic brake reel. This reel breaks them in and and they soon want distance so a jigmaster is an excellent light weight reel when paired with a 9 or 10 foot rod. Be sure to have the novice practice finger braking and finger control upon retrieve from day one. ALWAYS LOAD ROD WITH 50+YARDS OF BRAID IF YOU USE MONO. I only use braid and stainless leaders as I am tired of picking up plastic for the past 60+ years wherever I fish. Braid needs more attention and replacement but it is a much more satisfying line to use and that IS the reason I like fishing. Watch the sun rise, cast the surf and be happy.

Any pole with a rating of 100lbs or more will work. The question is.... Will the reel handle the Giant Uluas brah? Maybe, you might try to catch the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a instead!

Would 80lb mono would be acceptable for bait casting for uluas (Giant trevally) as we say in Hawaii, for this type of reel

Here's what the Cali surf guys do, you could modify this and skip the "running line". Spool on 200-300 yards of 65 lb braid backing, 100-150 yards 20-30 lb mono "running line" (aka top shot) to avoid fraying the braid on sand and rocks, and finish with 25 ft or so of 60-80 lb mono shock/rub leader, enough to wind around the spool several times so line doesn't snap if you're casting heavy weight for distance. The braid gives you a ton more capacity, and literally lasts for years, so all you need to change out is your running line and leaders periodically. If you're dropping straight down from a boat, you don't need to worry as much about sand and rock abrasion so you don't need a running line, you could go braid straight to 50-100 yards of 80 lb mono, then all you need to change out is the mono from time to time. Buy some good braid because it will last years, and overall you'll be saving money since you only need to spool on a little mono at a time.

You can put 50lb mono line on or braid 70 lb plus it all depends on what depth you fish at it has a big capacity so as long as you are not fishing in 300 to400 feet depth use what you want
