Practice the PSB: Health Occupations Aptitude Exam Practice Test Questions Paperback – December 10, 2012

This book was very helpful to get ready for my exam. Highly recommend

It helped as far as refreshing my memory on the math and stuff, and maybe a little on the test. It could have been more specific I think to help.

I think I would have done ok without this but I believe after studying with this guide I was able to do well and get into my program without any problems.

Overall, this is a very low quality book. It appears to have been thrown together by someone looking to make a quick buck, rather than by someone who wants to help you study for a PSB exam. It is a borderline scam. Some of the major issues are:1. "Complete Test Preparation" is not a professional test prep company. It is a man named Brian Stocker who self-published this guide.2. It is not clear which test this guide is for. PSB offers several different tests. On one page, the guide says that it is for the HOAE, but on anther page it says that it is for the APNE.3. The format of the practice questions in this guide does not match the format of the questions on PSB exams. For example, on the vocabulary section of PSB exams you are given a list of five words and asked to select the word that is most different in meaning. But in this study guide, the vocabulary practice questions are "Choose the best definition of __" followed by a list of four definitions to choose from. On the PSB exams the math questions are word problems, but in this study guide most of them are not.4. Many of the practice questions in this guide are poorly written and do not make sense. Example: "Solve 3b - 4 + 5b." This question makes no sense. This is not an equation or an inequality, so it is not even possible to solve this. On one reading comprehension practice question two possible answers are: "A. Yes, the white blood cell count can indicate disease" and "C. The white blood cell count can sometimes indicate disease." Isn't that the same thing?5. Some of the questions are repeated. For example, a practice question about the meaning of "precipitation" shows up in both the vocabulary section and in the natural sciences section.6. There are tons of editing errors and copy/paste errors.For all of these reasons, I do not think this study guide would help anyone improve their PSB score.

This a very good study guide that provides a lot of explanation of concepts in basic bio., chem, physics, and math. It has a quiz to help you assessed the areas you need to focus your studies on. Really could not ask for more. Has two sets of practice questions for all test sections in addition to the assessment questions.

A needed book to pass the PBS to get accepted into the nursing program

Overall this is not a good source! Take a look at the back of the book - most, if not all of the source material or notes is from Wikipedia. Grammar and spelling errors are seen throughout the book. Sample questions and practice questions are full of mistakes and are sometimes hard to understand. I gave it two stars because it did give me some practice which can always help with preparing for any test. Personally I wish Kaplan would do a prep book for the HOAT - they are definitely more trusted than this guy. I think the best ways to prepare for this test are 1. Don't waste your money buying this book. 2. Borrow someones Intro to college biology book and study that. 3. Practice math basically up to 8th grade. 4. Know how to read and gather information fast.

Really helped me to study for the PSB test! It gave a basic outline of what questions would be like and what to prepare for on how to take the exam.

Good study GUIDE! Quite a few of spelling mistakes and twice the answers given for the practice test were wrong (description matched a different answer than the answer they said was correct - or I was just wanting mine to be right :) ) Biology review was really short so I would recommend also using your notes from school to review from. After writing the HOAE, I thought that this book's practice questions were well written. Spelling and science were a little more difficult in the actual test, but not much more difficult. The academic aptitude section was fairly similar to the actual test. After writing the HOAE, I'd say overall the book was pretty good for practicing questions, but the review of the material could have been a bit better. I did use quite a lot of outside sources for reviewing science, which definitely helped me a lot. Just using this books review alone would be a good guide but shouldn't be the only source of info to study.FYI for people writing the test: You get to choose the order you do the 5 parts of the test. At least for mine, the number of questions and timing was different than the book said (I'm in Ontario applying to St. Clair College).

The tests were riddled with errors and the answer key was inaccurate. Lots of spelling errors in this edition and questions and answers did not always align. Content was okay, but there are better resources out there for a comparable price.

Wasn’t helpful. I bought it, but the questions, particularly the math section didn’t reflect the content of the questions. (And I don’t mean they weren’t exact, they weren’t similar mathematics.)

Tons of spelling mistakes which seems silly. I lost alot of confidence in this ebook when I found the editing had been so botched. If the editing isn't even right how do I know if the answers are even right? But I guess the general idea of what to study is there.

The book helped her prepare for the HOAE test and she was able to get into college with it. Worth the purchase.
