A bit of background: It's been about 15 years since I started using glass files. I hated emery boards and metal files (the feel of them and how long it took to use them, and it never quite did what I wanted), but I happened to work at a craft store that sold glass files and I tried one (it was broken and going to the trash) and immediately bought 2 so I could have one at home and one in my purse. My nails were chronically weak, jagged, and splitting, and glass files just seemed to erase all of that; the key thing for this was having one available when anything happened to a nail at all times. Over the years I bought several others, for gifts and for myself, and started running into a problem: glass is fragile XDSo, in 2018 I got on Amazon to specifically find a glass file that came with a sturdy case. The filing surfaces themselves don't wear out, but reaching into a purse full of broken glass is a big nope. I actually found this brand but a different version, and decided to give it a try. I was completely sold: it did everything I wanted, and came in a case. It actually did MORE than I expected, because I had never tried buffing my nails.Which brings me to this specific file, which I purchased Feb 2022 so that I could once again have a file at home and in my purse. I've found there are a couple differences between this one and the previous file I purchased:- The old file is "weaker" and doesn't file as well. In some ways, this makes it a better buffer, but not the best file. The new file is much more effective, and a few vertical swipes at the end of a nail removes a huge amount: I actually use the file to trim my nails instead of clippers because it just gives me so much more control.- The new file doesn't have as snug a fit on the cover. An extremely minor drawback, and based on other reviews it's probably a flaw with just my file. The files themselves are much thicker than the ones I used to have that would break, so I'm not as worried about it breaking if the cover slipped off in my bag. I also don't really like that the cover is transparent, because debris from filing is visible and kinda messy looking (easily fixed with rinsing occasionally, but it's a thing).- Because the new file is so much stronger, it's not great for buffing unless you can be very careful. I accidentally put deep grooves across all my nails trying to buff them and had to wait for them to grow back out. I don't buff my nails often and I still have the other file, so I don't consider this a drawback, just a difference.If you have issues with splitting nails, hangnails, or if you're extremely sensitive to any rough edges (like I am), this is a fantastic tool to keep handy (pun intended). I'm very particular about how my nails are shaped, and fixing a rough/cracked nail as soon as I notice it keeps me from ripping it off and making things worse. Being able to fix it in about 2 seconds and have a shiny smooth edge is the best feeling ever.

I have paper thin nails that always end up with snagging edges regardless how I keep them. I bought this just to try... absolutely amazing... I have longer nails... this keeps my edges smooth which has made my nails stronger. Not for artificial nails..

Okay, I ordered this as a non-disposable buffer to shine my nails but it's not great at that as my nails are not flat enough to shine without some flexibility in the buffer. So why am I giving this 5 stars? Why have I bought one for every family member in every color? Because this is the best non-disposable emery board for filing my nails! This gives me a perfect file every time. No more sharp edged nails, chips, or cracks in my nails - just a smooth and clean edge. I don't clip my nails, only file, and this thing does it quickly and makes my nails look great! I do polish a bit with it, but as I mentioned my nails don't have a flat bed to work with. The polished parts have the highest shine I've ever seen. Get it! Get two! I ordered an extra for my travel bag.

I must admit, I wasn't sure what to expect from this nail file, since I'd never used the glass kind before, but it's great! I don't use nail files often, as I always get powder gel manicures, but every so often if they chip, I can't stand my nails being jagged, so this was a great addition to my purse in case of emergencies. I also love the color.

Love love love these so much I NOW HAVE 3! i got one as a gift and used it all the time but silly me kept misplacing it. I just got 2 more!! So now i have three lol i have one that lives in my purse, one in my bathroom and one in my car. I absolutely recommend these to you and your neighbor Or whoever. They do a great job filing those quick snaggs and shape the nail beautifully, they leave the filed egde soft and not rough. They do make they nail shiny too! I was skeptical at first But im a believer now and so should you!

I did not care for how this worked - I found it didn't shape my nails well or consistently. Others may like it but I thought it was awkward and ineffective
