Enjoyable and Empowering
I heard about Empowered through a youtube called CBG17 (Comic Book Girl 17) and her assessment of Adam Warren’s titles are spot-on. I’m not into any of the Marvel or DC series but do enjoy Buffy, Angel, and the Sandman graphic novels. It’s a great read with good development of characters, great art (seriously this guy knows how to draw the female form to be attractive without being vulgar), and a good plot that progresses and transitions well from one chapter to the next. You might think from first glance that the main character is objectified because of the supersuit she wears or the many, many times she’s tied up, but that’s the irony of Empowered. She really is a role model and one you quickly can support and root for. A must read. The only down side is to think of the series like Game of Thones. These titles come out very slowly, so take your time. I blew through the whole series in a week and now have to wait another year for #8 to come out!

Empowered Returns
Volume 2 was a great read! Empowered is still the unluckiest superhero ever, but she actually does more good this time than in the last volume. Really like the more story driven chapters in this, with a possible love triangle between Emp, Thugboy, and Ninjette, and Ninjette's past coming back to haunt her. Also the Caged Demonwolf is definitely a scene stealer!

A fantastic read.
I love Adam Warren's style, and the character of Empowered is very relatable. I highly reccomend the series to anyone interested in a super hero comic with a hero who doesn't always have the answers.

More Empowered than I would've guessed
I love this series. I won't bother explaining the plot because the description and other reviewers have already done a better job. What I will do is explain that what I took as a simple Manga style comedy ended up being more. I love the little hints about whether or not Emma's suit really lacks power once it's torn. Someone puts forth the theory that it might be as powerful as Emma's confidence. And yes, she is a terrible superhero, always getting caught and tied up and humiliated. But . . . when she's invested, when her friend is in danger, when it's really on the line, she's the one that saves the day. She suggests the solution, saves her boyfriend and defeats a powerful dark beast (who then ends up residing on her coffee table in a power draining belt talking movie trivia and begging her to let him watch her have sex). This powerful beastly enemy even helps her, when she's in tears and her friend and boyfriend are speechless, it's her ex-enemy that sets her straight. That's not normal for a simple one-note comedy. That's something more. And that's why I love this series. The art is all pencils, but it's more beautiful and hectic and action packed than any inked job you can find. There are no stagnant pictures here. No full page layouts. This is all motion and humor and the subtlety of the character's expressions is perfect.I can't wait to read the rest of the series. (I've already ordered them!)

What are friends for
We definitely start to see are favorite buxom damsel starting to not only become a bit more confident, due in part to good old TG and 'jete, but also more comfortable with her captures. Plus, we get more insight to TG's backstory and a sneak peak at 'jete's past.

Empowered keeps getting better
Volume 1 of the series featured some stellar shorts, but as his time with the hero and her supporting cast grow, he really starts firing on all cylinders. Of course, his art is as stellar as ever.

Good clean fun
This is the second volume in Adam Warren's American Manga tale of Empowered, a young shapely woman who has a skintight costume that gives her superpowers and serious body image issues. Emp's boyfriend, Thugboy is a former hired goon who worked for supervillains before trying to rip the wrong supervillain off, and her best friend is Ninjette, an alcoholic ninja girl who is more than a little attracted to Thugboy. And they share a flat with an alien conqueror trapped in an alien bondage harness. You might be able to tell that the tone of this story is seriously tongue in cheek, but it is also emotionally true. Rather than super-confident, super-noble superheroes, Emp is a slightly screwed up young woman who does her best to help others, while trying to get over her self-esteem issues. Oh, and because her costume loses 90% of its power when ripped, she spends a lot of time tied up.The first volume was mainly 3-10 pages strips, whereas this volume has some longer stories, particularly a very moving story about a hired goon who captures Emp, only for Emp to save his life in a very real, very touching way. There's lots of social embarrassment humour and relationship humour too, and the humour can be a little bit dirty but in an innocent schoolboy way.The art is lovely, reproduced from Adam's pencils, it's drawn in a very attractive manga style with some fantastic levels of detail. It's a heartwarming, chucklesome collection. If you're looking for a new twist on superheroes that doesn't involve killing people or taking over the world, this is it.Recommended for fans of the Dirty Pair, Mystery Men, Red Dwarf and a bunch of other stuff.
