useful
Ebooks have certainly come a long way. Really well put together and hyperlinked to vital and informative information. Reading it on a droid tablet is a bit of a surprise, colorful and clever.

Mainly Kuala Lumpur
I thought for some time after first perusing it that this guide covered only KL. Melaka and Penang are in fact covered, though it is easy to overlook them in the table of contents. The treatment of them is not as sketchy as this might imply, but both deserve more prominence.

A bit of a dog's dinner...
I BELIEVE IN FAIR AND HONEST REVIEWS, SO HAVE JUST COME BACK INTO THIS ONE TO SAY THE FOLLOWING:- WHEN I BOUGHT THE BOOK THEN DID MY REVIEW IT WAS ESSENTIALLY FOR MELAKA, AND MY COMMENTS BELOW ON THAT STILL STAND, MUCH MORE DETAIL IS REQUIRED AND MORE ENTRIES FOR ACCOMMODATION, FOR EXAMPLE, ARE NEEDED, SIMILARLY PENANG COULD DO WITH MORE DETAIL TOO...HOWEVER, IF YOU WANT THIS BOOK JUST FOR KL I FEEL IT DOES A DECENT JOB OF THAT SO I'VE ADDED ANOTHER STAR TO MY COMPOSITE TOTAL. FOR KL ALONE IT WOULD GET 4 STARS. BUY IT FOR KL, THAT'S FOR SURE. MY ORIGINAL REVIEW STANDS AS BELOW...A terrible disappointment, it's a recent publication and I wanted up-to-date moving-about details and a clear overall picture. It's not all bad - if you want masses of information about KL and where to shop, its entertainment, and things to do then this will suit you, it does a decent job of suggesting places to go, however if you want essential information about the airport(s) and bus stations of KL for onward travel - I did - then it is awfully difficult to navigate this book. For instance, I needed simple information on KL to Melaka buses, prices, timetable, and where to catch them...also, a comparison with taxi prices to various places that are also possible by bus - it does give a few examples, but not enough. If there are 4 of you in a family, the taxi may not be much more expensive than taking a bus or train, taxi prices get some mention, but not enough.More useful phone numbers and internet contacts need adding to the script.I found a small reference in the Melaka "Getting there and away" section about bus travel etc. but it didn't say at which KL bus station you end up...neither did it say that for KL to Melaka buses you can actually book tickets online several months ahead with some companies (which I managed to do last week ). I also needed information for travel out of KL to Mersing. The book does not mention that for tickets on this route you can only book 24 hours ahead. There is also, I believe, another bus station doing KL-Melaka, and also a direct more expensive coach service from KLIA, but again, not enough timings, prices, or contacts for the various bus companies - and there's lots of them. There is a confusing set of bus termini in and around KL and this book is pretty much hopeless if you want that information in an easy-to-understand form - it mentions them in short but the book needs an expanded travel-hub chapter. It does cover the within-KL bus services and rail lines a little better, and to be fair, it is very difficult to precis the varied rail transit systems. As well as KL I really wanted plenty of advice and suggestions about Melaka - after all, that is one of the 3 places covered by this book. Well, don't get excited, it gives just 16 pages of information on the area. What it tells you is good for the space allocated, but 16 pages is not enough.Penang is better covered but it still only gets 25 out of the book's 263 pages. Don't buy this just for Penang if you already have chapters in an existing guide, there's not much extra here, BUT in the space allowed the Penang stuff gives reasonable cover. If space is limited in the book then why bother with all the pages about daily life in KL, KL's history, Arts and architecture, and how green is KL's environmental scorecard (no idea matey, but pray, where do I catch the flaming bus and what time does it go?) etc. etc. Interesting musings, yes, but not as vital as the nuts-and-bolts vital moving around information for travellers. The airport situation in KL has been confusing for years - until recently we had KLIA, the main international airport, but there was also LCCT (low cost carrier terminal) which used runways close to KLIA but which was essentially separate. As far as I know, LCCT has now ceased and has become KLIA2, which I think now has a quick high-speed rail link from KLIA1. Cannot find anything about it in this book...it just refers to KLIA as a generic. Air Asia now use, I think, that terminal now known as KLIA2 for services which were previously at LCCT. Lots of travellers use Air Asia. Can't find anything in the book about their routes to and from KL, and no contact numbers for them or other airlines. It does manage to mention the third airport, usually known as Subang or Skypark Subang (also known as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah!) and all the book has is a single sentence saying Firefly and Berjaya Air land here. I can't find any schedule in the book for Firefly's route KL-Penang, which can be very useful and cheap. I can find nothing at all in the book about the fact that Berjaya Air suspended their KL - Tioman Island flghts earlier this year to travellers who want to buy a flight-only booking to Tioman...you can only fly KL to Tioman with Berjaya if you have booked a package at their resort. Given that this publication was June 2014 then this all should be in it.There's a useful pull-out KL map, and as I said ealier but worth repeating, there are some good suggestions for things to do in and around KL. The day-trip suggestions are useful. The book is a bit of a dog's dinner. Steve Riches, Northampton, UK.
