Davis Instruments Vantage Vue and WeatherLink Live Bundle with Console

I have not quite learned everything so I will wait on a another star. I bought a an advanced plan and a communications package. It seems to be a little difficult in online tasks like review of neighboring stations and it obtaining actual FORECASTS (often just use the default iOS app). I know it works but then it is hard to get back to it. I will master it in time.I used a Schedule 40 steel water pipe, 1.25 inch dia, mounted in concrete and it is stiffly mounted, about 8 feet above ground near a pasture in an open area. Transmit distance to communications module is about 150+ feet. Also have the Vantage Vue console to supplement an iPad connected to WiFi.

I bought this as a backup to my Rainwise MK III as I have been having issues with the Rainwise. I’ve been a weatherEnthusiast for over 50 years. I’ve had personal weather stations for almost 30 years.I even have a Kestrel 400Hand held. There are a few negatives with this product. The anemometer has frozen up several times andThe rain gauge has frozen up once. I don’t have a problem with the WeatherLink program or it’s monthlyCharges. I would like to see a single cost for the WeatherLink program with unlimited time like I haveWith my Rainwise/Ambient program. Considering the reasonable cost of the vantage vue I would considerIt a good value.

Highly accurate, the 2.5 second wind update rate is just phenomenal. The commentary on the base station is comical at times.

The unit itself is a well designed pro-quality meteorological instrument for home use, and I can recommend it. However my unit was sent from LIFELINE BRANDS, not from Davis instruments (the Amazon item description clearly states: “Sold by Davis Instruments”).My order details indicated return eligible through June 10, 2021. After I received my unit I determined that I did not have a suitable location to mount the unit, and I initiated a return on June 10, 2021. LIFELINE BRANDS refused to honor my return and Amazon did not support me in trying to resolve my dispute.This is not an issue with the unit itself, rather, a cautionary note to other potential buyers about LIFELINE BRANDS and any other 3rd party sellers. They may not honor commitments and Amazon will not support you.

Davis customer service told me that this model had an aspirator for the outside temperature sensor -- it does not (but I'm sure this was a genuine mistake). The Davis radiation shield is probably the best on the home-consumer market, but early morning sun still caused temperature errors of about 7 degrees -- right when we need it most to know when to open/close windows.The WeatherLink Live reporting is good (but an expensive part of this bundle. Only after setup did I discover that Davis provides your current data on its dashboard, but charges about $5/month for access to historic data (even yesterday). I considered that, having bought the Weatherlink Live product, charging for access to the data that I provided to Davis was unacceptable and returned the complete package.)

I bought myself one of these a while back. I noticed that my father was logging in to check what the weather was doing at my place all the time. So, for his birthday I decided to get him his own. The rain bucket isn't the most accurate, but, that's my only gripe. Both my dad and I cant live without them now.
