Award Worthy Effort!
I don't know how many of you got the opportunity to hear this author, Ama Kari Kari Yawson actually read "Sunne's Gift" so eloquently to the children at the library's Afternoon Storyhour, but I encourage you not only to listen (it is very short) but to also purchase what is sure to be an award winning book. [...]The profound underlying message of "Sunne's Gift" can be understood by even the youngest listeners and readers about self worth, self love and the consequences of bullying. Yes I see many awards for this one. This book is perfect for your children, grandchildren or someone else's children. Dr. Yawson has perfectly packaged a moral lesson for young ears and malleable minds who will think of Sunne perhaps when faced with a similar real life circumstance.Treat yourselves to the inspiration behind "Sunne's Gift". Just don't pay any attention to the part about her being a more critical writer than creative. I am convinced that Dr. Yawson could also write award winning novels and movie scripts and I look forward to more from her creative spirit.[...]

A Beautiful Story, Beautifully illustrated, Beautiful & Important Message
Loved this. A beautifully illustrated folktale about bullying & diversity. We are all different, but special in our own way. Also as a parent navigating this “remote learning world”, I really appreciated & loved the Curriculum portion at the end of the story. More children’s books should incorporate discussion & learning questions. Very well done.

A Must Read For Everyone
A book intended for children? Yes. However after reading this book, I realized that it’s message is intended for all ages, genders and ethnic backgrounds. For children, it is a wonderful tool to help nurture and teach them as they begin their journey to adulthood. However, for adults, it is a true reminder of what we sometimes lose sight of. The positive message of "love thyself" that Ama was gifted to deliver through words and the illustrations that Rashad was able to bring to life through pictures are truly an inspiration. The art and words together make this book a must read. Every child deserves the chance to read this book. Thank you both for caring enough to bring us this positive message!

It was great hearing the children's feedback and responses from the discussion ...
I read "Sunne's Gift: How Sunne Overcame Bullying to Reclaim God's Gift" to a group of very attentive 5-8 year olds this past summer. Surprisingly, they were very reflective and followed the characters throughout the entire story. It was great hearing the children's feedback and responses from the discussion questions at end of the book. Some could relate to Sunne's challenges to be accepted. This book should be on a shelf in every public library, school library and home. Sunne's Gift is about diversity, about bullying, about celebrating each others differences, and about love. Great Job Ama!Author, Mary E. Evans

My four year old boy loves this book and picks it out at bedtime over and over again! I love that this story celebrates diversity - not only hair type, but this can be applied it almost everything! I recommend it as a good read for all children. Milbert and Basil
