They both smell wonderful with Pine being the stronger "Christmas" scent.

If i order the fir scentscicles for next year and store them, will they still be as fragrant as if i bought them right before i hang them next year?

I bought mine last year and only used half and left them in the container and put the whole thing in a ziplock. I opened then this year an wow they smelled really good. For about 2 weeks every time I was near the tree it smelled so good. They would probably be fresher if you ordered closer to next Christmas, but it depends on their manufacturer date.

Purchased locally (12/2018), and they don't have the warning re aquatic life, etc. Anyone know the difference?

I am not sure but I have not seen a warning for aquadic life on them.

Can these be cut to be made shorter?

I don't see why not, they are quite soft.
