Love the pictures, but...
I am happy with the book for its pictures, however being somebody who likes to finish everything, I was disappointed with it ending at N. It almost seems like the author didn't have time for her own book. I get it, but I wouldn't have published it. I got this because I love the baby journal. I am sure others will not be bothered by the abrupt ending.

disappointing at best
I am a fan of Nikki McClure.I have purchased many items with her illustrations. When I had a child myself, I wanted to buy one of her children's books.I was really disappointed and irritated by this book.Perhaps because I expected too muchor perhaps because I felt this book was poorly executed. She had the opportunity to do a very nice ABC book(whether this is the publisher or her fault, I cannot say).It seems that Ms McClure used cut-outs not originally made for this project. The illustrations for each letter are often a stretch of the imagination.Words, such as "commune," "dingy," "gentle," "giant" are not only wordsthat are not the best or easiest for teaching toddlers new words, but these words were often not particularly related to the image.Further, the book does not even finish the ABCsbut rather trails off after QRS with an excuse aboutno longer having the attention span, and nether did her baby...What?!?I would have preferred if she just finished the ABCs.The only reason that I gave it any stars at all is that I like her illustrations(even though she reused many of them- which is fine if they worked for the book)and my daughter seemed to like, not love, the book. She does pick it up and look at it now and thenbut rarely connects the image with a word(which I believe is the whole reason for ABC books).I do not recommend this book.If you do plan to buy it, please look through it first.

Exquisite
Nikki McClure's work is exquisite. What a great ABC book, just keep in mind it only goes to N.

Charming and makes a perfect gift
THE alphabet papercut book. This is a board book that shows letters of the alphabet, each one with an adventure showing a baby exploring some part of the world. If you need a gift for children -Awake to Nap- is highly recommended. The artist created the papercuts while her son was napping. Nikki McClure comes from a background as one of the more prominent visual artists involved with record labels in the early nineties. The blurbs describing her work as emboding the 'fiercely independent fire that fueled the passion and creativity of that time period' are sustantial. This little book is a real find.

This book should be on an episode of Portlandia.
Book starts okay and the art is nice but it ends at the letter N. Seriously, an alphabet book without a good portion of the alphabet?! I get not having time to finish a project, but don't publish the book until

Great first baby book with high contrast imagery.
At 2 months old, my daughter loves this book more than any other. The high contrast, primarily black and white images appeal to her - she'll stare at the same page for a minute or two (no other book in our baby library can claim that!) and seems to have a definite preference for certain images. Very cool little book! I hope there is an O-Z sequel coming soon. Nikki - are you listening?

I love Nikki McClure's papercuts
I love Nikki McClure's papercuts, so I had to have this board book for my first born. The images are gorgeous, and the stark contrast is great for newborn babies' eyesight to pick up on. My only disappointment was that the alphabet only went up to P, I wanted more! The Author gives an explanation at the end saying, "The alphabet was never finished intentionally; the naps were too short and life too thrilling to justify going all the way to Z. I no longer had the attention span and neither did my baby. We were to awake." which I find sweet, and can identify with, but still would have loved the full alphabet.
