Hapkido: An Introduction to the Art of Self-Defense

Good Intro
Overall it is a good intro to the much bigger book. If you don't want to fork over a good amount of money for a large book this is what you should get. It covers the general points of Hapkido, and goes into enough details that you would be happy with it. It shows a handful of techniques for different attacks, the different parts of the hand and foot to strike with and general way of how to strike with those according to Hapkido style.

GreatHapkido book
I must say this is one of the best Martial Arts books published, in my opinion. I gave it to an Hopkido instructor as a gift. Accepted very well. There are voulumes of illustrations, very detail. It's great as a reference book, there is much to learn. This book will help you. Recommended.

Beginner
My background is in Taekwondo. I know that Hapkido is an extension of that and I wanted to teach myself. So, this book is a great start for me. For those that study martial arts...never stop growing or improving yourself.

Misleading covers, this guy uses the same cover on several of his books.
Wasn't the full sized book that I thought it would be. These all have the same cover but the full book costs about $100.00. THIS is NOT THAT book! If you want the full book look for the one which costs $90.00 or more!

Great book! But one thing to keep in mind ...
Great book! But one thing to keep in mind is that this only shows a selection of Hapkido techniques from different belts. If you are after a book that shows a comprehensive list and demonstration of techniques (handy for a white belt who is just starting out who wants some reference material to help you remember the techniques, like me) then this book probably won't be of that much help. Whilst I haven't read it myself (yet), I am told that 'Hapkido: Traditions, Philosophy and Technique', also written by Marc Tedeschi, does offer the comprehensive breakdowns of all techniques for all belts. The only other issue I have is that it could be a little more detailed, specifically with the release from hand grads.

Okay but a bit pushy
This book gives basic info about hapkido, which is nice, what is not nice is that at every second page it is mentioned that you can find more info in the 1000 page version of this which you can purchase online for 76 quid (here on amazon as well) reading this on every second page was a bit like a sales person trying to sell you stuff... I mean it was great that at the beginning they mentioned that they have created this shorter version for general information as not many ppl will read 1000 page book about hapkido, but do you really have to mention this on every second page??? apart from that it is an okay book if you just want to get a basic idea about hapkido

Taster
I bought this to complement my interests in taekwondo (3rd Dan). I found it met my expectations of covering a wide of aspects for the art. The book contains a considerably large number of photos, and these are well laid out. Additionally, since the publication itself is large (almost A4) means a sequence of moves can be clearly shown on the same page with descriptions. Why not 5 stars ? Simply because these are selected from a larger publication and one needs to be aware of the various versions of the self-defenses to find the most suitable and practical for yourself. Those selected here are a 'taster' selection.

Good book
Clearly written and expertly photographed by the author of the landmark Hapkido: Traditions, Philosophy, Technique, this unique book is essential reading for anyone seeking a concise, honest, and accurate overview of Hapkido's history, philosophy, and techniques.
