The Bird in the Tree (The Eliot Family Trilogy)

Flawed reprint, but still a worthwhile read
Delighted to find this (and the other books in the Eliot trilogy) reissued. Not quite so pleased to find that the scan or whatever method reproduced the paperback resulted in a number of careless typos, which are in the Kindle edition as well (e.g., on p.1, the children are compared to "Delia Robbia cherubs" instead of "Della Robbia." Others are less obvious, but still irksome.Still, it's a lovely novel about a family dealing with modern problems in un-modern but very rewarding ways, and a good start to one of Goudge's best series. I'm happy to see these & others available again. If you can't find an older, used edition, or if they're not in your local library, buy these and give them a try. You won't regret it.

Interesting book
I enjoyed reading this book and learning about the Eliot family. I enjoyed the second book, "Pilgrim's Inn" in this series more than the first. Elizabeth Goudge is a gifted story teller.

If you like Goudge, you'll like it.
While Pilgrim's Inn is the best of the trilogy, this one doesn't disappoint.

I love Elizabeth Goudge's writing
I love Elizabeth Goudge's writing. She is a genius for understanding human character. Green Dolphin Street is another great book by her. It was made into a movie in 1947.

Are you carrying any Large Print Elizabeth Goudge editions?
I am hoping especially to find large print copies of The Eliot Trilogy, The White Witch and The Dean's Watch, the Scent of Water, but would be interested in others as well. I would be most grateful for any leads on these! Anna

new printing
Elizabeth Goudge is an old favourite of mine and I can no longer get copies of her books from my local library ( I know that she is considered by many to be too old-fashioned) so I was pleased to see a new printing of this trilogy and have treated myself to part one (Christmas is coming for the next two parts !?) However, do be aware that the printer is American and consequently all the spelling is American; I wonder if Elizabeth would approve!Never mind; enjpy it anyway.

the village old and one I would love to visit
An older woman tries to find and house for her family after the first world war. She makes it a sanctuary for her grandchildren. The house, the woman, the grandchildren and the village all have their stories. The setting is exquisite, the characters are very real, the village old and one I would love to visit. Another great Goudge.
