Great spool
This spool has worked perfectly for my needs. I am just a novice kite flyer, but this spool has met all of my needs. I flew my kite in light wind, so it was difficult to get it off the ground, but this spool allowed me an easy way to unwind a lot of line at a time, when a good gust came along. I don't think I would have been able to get my kite up with a standard spool. By simply holding the base, the line would let out a great deal of line to get the kite up quickly. The reeling in part is okay, but I cannot seem to reel it all in fast enough, when the wind dies quickly. One other note...I got my kite stuck in a few trees around my yard, and the line was strong enough to yank my kite out of the trees, each time (about 5 times), with no damage. I could not find an exact measurement for how much line is in the spool, but I believe it is about 200' to 250', based on a rough mathematical estimate after laying it out on my lawn. Only complaint: There is no good way to stop the line when you let it out quickly, without hurting your hands a little. The only way to stop it is to use your thumb or free hand. When it is spinning really fast, this can be a bit painful until you get it slowed down.

Great fun
For somebody who has arthritis, this is a great kite winder. It's easy to hold and to handle, unlike the usual handles that comes with the kites. It took it a while to actually get shipped and to get here, but when it finally came the packaging was in good condition. I just thought it was the winder itself, and didn't know it came with string, i had also ordered 400 ft string, but the string that came with it, and using the string that came with the original handle from my kite, it works well. The only bad thing is don't let go of the winder, cuz once you do, it will unwind itself at a tremendous speed and when you try to stop you will hurt your fingers as i did. But i love it, and my cat has figured out how to unwind the string and play with it also, but i have it put away now so she can't get a hold of it.

Great kite spool!
This has been a great spool so far I must say. It really is quite easy to use spins really quick as the kite ascends up and you can make it come down by reeling it back like a fishing rod but it can be hard winding it for long making your hands tired just like a workout. But overall it’s a great spool easy to use that makes kite flying more enjoyable.

Used for a Lure Retriever....Worked Great!
I didn't actually use this for a kite, but for a lure retriever. This worked really well because it allowed the retriever to go down quick enough to dislodge the lure half the time. Only thing I would say about this is that it feels like cheap plastic, so it may not last that long if you were to use it for a kite. However, for my purpose it is perfect and should hold up well enough.

Too slow too hard for young kids
This spring, I purchased 6 kites and 4 string winder. I had to return these as I cannot wind the strings fast enough. I have lost 2 kites (got stuck in the trees) because i could not pull the kite and contol it. The other winder I got is the circular one with ball bearings. Those are awesome and I havent lost a single kite. I can wind the kites so fast with the other ones and I am able to control the kites even in unpredictable winds! If you are not a serious kite runner like me, this product may work, but even my 4 and 5 year old kids had a hard time manipulating this winder.

Not just for kites!
This kite winder is made of heavy duty plastic and is good for more than kite string. I have a 138 foot long nylon braided line I use for catfishing wound on mine. I use it to wind and unwind my catfish bank line and it works like a charm. The handles work great to wind without twisting your line, and the sloped plastic at the ends of the spool section keeps your line on track.

JUST MAKE SURE THE END OF THE LINE IS TIED TO THE WINDER.
Used it for the first time, but almost lost my kite because the end of the line wasn't tied on to the winder. It was a medium wind kind of a day, and had I not checked it, I would have been chasing that kite for a couple of miles if not more. That would have bee very bad

Bang for you're buck?
Looked fun and cool for a fun time use and when i went to let string out for the kite not more than 3 secs in the black handle peice completely seperated from the spool and would have flown away if i hadnt been holding the retrieval nobs.
