Can hard-wire to AT&T 2Wire Router (U-Verse) for expanded WiFi coverage.
I bought the R10000 Router to address the poor WiFi coverage I was getting from my AT&T U-Verse Router (they call it a "Residential Gateway"). The U-Verse Router, made by 2Wire, is located at one end of my house in my home office, and my bedroom is at the far opposite end of the house, about 80-90 ft away. Using the 2Wire Router I could never get a good strong WiFi signal in the bedroom. I read that others had successfully used Amped Wireless products to extend the range of their 2Wire Routers so I bought the R10000. Working with Amped Wireless' tech support (who were great!), we first connected the R10000 to the 2Wire Router with the short supplied Ethernet cable and configured the R10000 as a `Wireless Access Point', hoping the R10000's wireless coverage would extend all the way to the bedroom. But the signal was not much better than what I was getting from my 2Wire Router...which actually makes sense, for the following reason: The R10000 has a stated 10,000 sq ft of wireless coverage, but please realize that that coverage is in a circular pattern, with the R10000's antenna at the center of that circle. Using simple 7th grade math (formula for area of a circle, setting area=10,000 sq ft) and solving for the radius of the WiFi coverage circle, we see that the radius is about 56 ft. So you may not get a strong signal more than 56 ft from the R10000's position (depending on obstructions in the signal path).So... what I finally did was simply buy a 100 ft Ethernet cable and then just ran the cable down in the crawl space under my house, basically hard-wiring the R10000 to the AT&T 2Wire Router (so that the R10000 is located in my bedroom, instead of right next to the 2Wire Router). Of course that required drilling 2 small holes, one in the office floor and one in the bedroom floor, to thread the Ethernet cable down into the crawlspace and bring the cable up into the bedroom to connect to the R10000. The scheme works brilliantly! I now have an incredibly strong WiFi signal at the opposite end of my home (all 5 signal strength bars are lit up on my devices). Cell phones, laptops, Nexus 7 Tablet, all receiving a great signal. Maybe not the most elegant solution, but I'll never have to deal with a weak WiFi signal anywhere in my house again. Amped Wireless' tech support was wonderful in helping me work through the problem. If you're an AT&T U-Verse customer with poor WiFi coverage, this may present a solution (provided you have crawlspace access).

A strong option for hard to reach places
I purchased this router as a replacement for my previous D-Link DIR-655 router. The D-Link router worked as advertised but the thick plaster walls in my apartment meant the use of a repeater was necessary to receive functional wireless signal across the premises. Repeaters in my opinion are a recipe for trouble as they introduce yet another component into the mix.The Amped Wireless R10000 definitely has a stronger signal than the D-Link and covers a significantly greater portion of my apartment. It has effectively eliminated my need for a repeater which in turn makes the stability of my wireless network greater. I have tested it with a variety of devices and wireless cards (Acer netbook, iPad2, MSI dualnet pci card, and an Amped Wireless UA600 usb wireless adapter) and can confirm that the router's receive sensitivity is greater than the D-Link as well.I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it is an improvement, but not a panacea. The main areas of my home are now covered with a connection fast and stable enough to watch shows on hulu, youtube, etc. However, certain lesser used areas of my home cannot stream video and are barely fast enough for loading a basic webpage. Moreover, the router only uses the 2.4GHz spectrum and does not provide the final degree of wireless speed that other 802.11n routers may. This was not a concern of mine as I was simply looking for a stable wireless connection first and foremost. I would recommend this product to anyone who's current router isn't quite covering the area they need. For a point of comparison. I live in a densely populated area in a major United States' city in a mid-rise building where all my neighbors have wireless access points too.

Amped Technical Support Wonderful - Router Failure
Purchased this router based on reviews in Amazon. Installation was easy and straight forward. Amped router setup page worked properly and was easy to understand. Pretty much completed automatically by the web site. Router operated about 1 day. This morning I used the analytics tool provided by Amped. When about 50' away he router signal never went much pass 65-70 dBm - when I stood close to the router the signal improved but only to 40dBm (not the advertised 28dMb). A little later this morning (11/18/12) I lost the internet connection - when I checked the signal again using the analytics tool - the signal was very erratic and when using the time graph resembled a saw tool trace going from 60dMb to 70dMb very few seconds. After several reboots, a complete reset and setup it now appears that the router has had a wireless failure.I called Amped technical support this afternoon (11/19/12) and spoke with Chelsa. She was very knowledgeable and helpful as we attempted to get the router operating again. She assisted me in downlaoding new firmware. After we restarted the router it is now working properly again. It was a pleasure working with her and Amped. The router continues to operate correctly - my concern is that the power output is only slightly stronger than the Linksys WRT 150N that it replaced. I have, at Amped's direction, switched the channel and bandwith and have not seen much change or improvement in the signal strength. At Amped's recommendation I am returning this router and getting a replacement through Amazon. (The return process at Amazon is excellent). I am hoping the replacement router has a better output than the first one ordered.
