If you are a TiVo user and fan read this first.
Important details: If you are using a TiVo DVR that takes cable cards, many cable operators are no longer providing new cards, and some are no longer supporting cable cards. Check with your cable company first. Amazon is one of the few resellers offering new machines, selling them through Weaknees. Weaknees provides customer support if you have an issue. TiVo is getting out of the DVR hardware business unfortunately and has sold off their inventory. You need to buy this through a reseller, like Amazon. TiVo customer support was able to activate this new DVR and the TiVo guide and schedule are still available and working well with a subscription for this new DVR. Good news: it works perfectly. I just transferred my cable cards from my old machine to the new one. No issues. Large storage capacity. Easy to use. Same excellent TiVo product.

Unreliable
Unfortunately, we're having to re do this review due to issues. The Edge looks good in HDR upscale mode but hazy with that feature turned off. It's watchable in that mode but not as clean as the non HDR TiVo Bolt this unit replaces. Often the screen goes inexplicably black for about 3 seconds. The new menu screens are ok but maybe not quite as user friendly as the previous ones so it takes a little time with the leaning curve. Some screen functions respond slowly. In our system, Spectrum, the carrier requires an external tuner adapter in addition to the internal cable card and the two do not work well together. The adapter and TiVo must be periodically restarted to work properly. The other issue concerns rebooting. It has a bad habit of suddenly rebooting and has done it several times. We've only had the Edge since mid April, 2021. Very frustrated with it and filing a trouble ticket with Tivo since we are out of Amazon's return window it but would have by now if we could. The lack of reliability changes our rating to not recommended. You will want a different DVR for cable if you wish to go 3rd party. We also have the Spectrum DVR as a back up and it has proven to be flawless and reliable. Not happy at all with TiVo at this point. Very disappointed in it because we really like some of the new features. Best of them is the automatic commercial skip. After some time with the unit, we will continue to use it and hope TiVo will update firmware and improve the operations. Overall and with all the glitches, what would otherwise be a fantastic unit is just mediocre at best. Can not recommend until the company gets a handle on all it’s problems. Tech support is very poor when it comes to these issues. We’re hoping TiVo will listen to the issues and address them for better operation of the Edge. Our Spectrum cable tech tells me they have more trouble with TiVo products and it ties up there time and resources to address the issues, many times without resolve. It would not be surprising to see the cable company stop provision for or allow TiVo products. It cost them, and ultimately the customer, too much to constantly troubleshoot the issues. What could have been a great product is a huge disappointment. Update. Now it is struggling with connecting to the servers but I suspect that is an issue with TiVo. Worse, the remote app has been plagued with connection issues. Would never have gotten into this unit had I known all the trouble we would have. It's out of warranty so we're suffering with it for now. Customer service is horrible! Update II: Rebooting issue continues. Since the unit is out of warranty, I replaced the hard drive, same make, type and size, 2tb. No improvement. Rebooting issue continues and new glitch causes reboot when trying to progrramme an additional TiVo remote control. Honestly we should have just kept the Bolt and stuck with that even though the Edge has HDR and auto skip. Will use it until it dies but I honestly believe the motherboard is bad. TiVo support is no help. Their CSRs just repeat the same thing over and over with no other help. To reiterate, do not buy the TiVo Edge. It's a poorly designed and poorly functioning device.

Great until Xfinity stopped supporting it
Unfortunately when our old TIVO broke we replaced it with this only to quickly discover that our Xfinity/Comcast cable no longer is supporting this product. We were losing more and more channels until we gave up and abandoned it and got an Xfinity DVR (which has an awful remote compared to TIVO's). Sadly we still have to pay TIVO $14 a month until July when our 1 year commitment is up. Kind of a bummer since it is not usable now. TIVO tech support and customer service is useless - I mean - I question whether there even is any. You certainly cannot get anyone on the phone.

It's a nice Tivo if on sale
This is my second TiVo EDGE. I've had every Tivo made since 2001 so I have a lot of history with this company. The Edge is a nice upgrade from the Bolt and a major upgrade from the Roamio. The processor is fast and the UI is smooth and intuitive. My first Edge only lasted several months before it failed to power up. Tivo replaced it under the continual care program and charged me a fee for the new box. Tivos rely on cable cards if you want to record cable television. It is unknown how much longer cable companies will support cable cards now that the FCC is no longer mandating they do so. So if I had to pay full price for this Edge I would be reluctant to do so. But given they were selling for under $200 for Father's Day, coupled with a discount on the annual service to $99/year, it's hard to go wrong with the purchase. If you buy this from Amazon, you will not be offered the discount on service that you get if you purchase it directly from Tivo. However, if they sent you an email offering you the discount, call customer service and request it. It will take you a while to work your way through the system but eventually they will agree to honor the discounted annual service fee. I hope Tivo sticks around for a while. Their product is still better than the cable box DVRs. But eventually streaming TV is going to catch up and surpass what Tivo can offer. When this happens, I predict Tivo will be history.

Says it works with cable if they support the cable card which my company did and couldn't get it to work so sent back
