Fat Cat: A Danish Folktale

I love this book! The illustrations are wonderful and the story is very engaging for small children. I tell stories (not read, but tell) to two classes of second-graders, and they absolutely love this story -- even the few whose parents have read the book to them. And when you do read it to a child, the illustrations make magic!

My bad but this was not the Fat Cat story I remembered, funny that their are 2 of them both Danish

I ordered this book for my kindergarten classroom. It became a class favorite the day I read it. The students have asked to have it re-read to them several times. They enjoy the silly absurdities of the cat swallowing more and more characters, and the illustrations are outstanding. Margaret MacDonald has given us another incredible folktale to enjoy with children.

Great retelling without the gory aspect. I used the book in a 4/5 grade concert with a cute song and orff instrument accompaniment. I scanned the book into my laptop and used a projector to show the audience. The illustrations were beautiful and the concert was a hit! Highly recommended!!

The children liked it. I liked the original version a bit better.

I was very disappointed when the book arrived and I saw that it was a retelling of the original. I grew up with the original book and all the fun danish names. To me, it was poetry. I think the seller needs to make it more clear that it is a retelling in very different words.

I love this story. I use it with my students all the time.
