DO NOT GET THIS AS YOUR FIRST FOUNTAIN PEN
After discovering that I've been lurking around the world of fountain pens, my wonderful no-foreplay, go-big-or-go-home wife decided to drop this thing on me for Christmas. I thought I was getting a Lamy Al-Star. That's the fountain pen equivalent of stepping up to the line with a water gun shaped like a H&K MP-5, but when you pull the trigger a full-auto stream of real bullets comes out. Equal parts shocking and completely sweet. But here's the deal: This is like a 16-year-old getting a 911 Carerra Turbo S for his first car. It's like losing your virginity to Jessica Simpson on 2 glasses of wine and a pinch of MDMA. What do I do now? Where do I go from here? The only two directions are: down, or sideways (which = "broke").On the real, this pen, even in fine point, writes wet. However, my lefty wife who is currently seething with a perfectly nice TWSBI 580AL (this hobby bites HARD, folks) can enviously scroll out anything she wants with this fantastic 18K gold nib. Sucker moves like a cobra across green grass. No skipping. It's fun. It's fun to scribble stuff and you find yourself making excuses to write with it.Downsides about the wet writing is that when using loose papers in a work environment it gets real wet. You have to move fast and use almost no pressure. I'm thinking of having the nib ground to extra fine or something because, Hell, this is way more fun than saving for your kid's tuition, right?!It's simple, elegant, robust, easy (and fun) to flush and fill, understated (except dat fine-ass nib tho), and not messy or leaky at all.TL;DR: An epic writing instrument. Don't even think about getting this as your first pen or even in your first year of getting into fountain pens. This one's a "Grail Pen". It'll kind of ruin ya for the cheap stuff.

I chose the fine point based on a review
This pen met my expectations. I chose the fine point based on a review. I may get an extra medium point because the fine writes like a fine. The price was more than I'm accustomed to paying, but I'd spent a lot of time picking the exact choice that seemed right after years using a variety of better than average fountain pens. I regret having taken so long to make the purchase. I had reservations on dealing with an unfamiliar foreign company, but in this case I couldn't have been more pleased.

Pelikan M800
I had bought a Pelikan m150 about 14 months ago, and i Loved! it. This last summer, i worked and i loved the m150 so much, i wanted to reward myself with another amazing pen. Boy, did that happen. I bought the m800 and I love it almost as much as the 150. (mainly sentimental reasons, because I wrote every paper for school with it)

The Perfect Fountain Pen
The Pelikan M800 is the perfect fountain pen. I've owned one with the black barrel & gold furniture for nearly a year, and it is by far my favorite fountain pen. I use other fountain pens in my collection, but I always return to my M800 after a day or so away from it. Here are the reasons why I love this pen:1. Ink capacity - This pen has a huge ink capacity. I can go for 2 or 3 weeks at a time without needing to refill the ink reservoir.2. Filling mechanism - I really like the piston mechanism used to draw ink into the pen. The brass piston always operates smoothly, and the piston screw never comes loose after it's tightened.3. Nib - I have to admit that this pen isn't the best-writing pen in my fountain pen collection, but it's still a smooth writer that's always a pleasure to use. I have a fine nib, but it writes a little more like a medium. I've heard that this is pretty typical of Pelikan pens. The nib itself is a beauty; it's a 2-tone 18k gold nib with a pelican engraved on it. Also, the nib can easily screw out from the barrel, making changing nibs easy as can be.4. Reliability - This pen never skips and it starts writing every time the nib hits the paper, even after sitting idle for several days. There are never any leakage problems, either. I don't have to be afraid of a blob of ink flying out when I use this pen.5. Craftsmanship - Everything on this pen is put together beautifully. The gold trim complements the black finish perfectly, and it's not so much gold that it looks gaudy. (This is coming from a guy who prefers white gold to yellow gold!) The M800 is also a durable pen. I've accidentally dropped it once or twice, and nothing has ever broken on it. (I wouldn't recommend regularly abusing it, though!) The resin has proven to be tough.6. Size - This might be a drawback to some people, but I really like the large size of this pen. I don't like using writing instruments that are too thin, and there's no need to worry about that with the M800. It's a big pen...about 6.5" posted, 5" unposted, & 5.5" capped. The barrel is just about 0.5" in diameter. I find this pen extremely comfortable to use.All of these factors are what made the Pelikan M800 become my favorite fountain pen. I recommend this fountain pen very, very highly!

My favorite pen
I've had this pen since sometime in the late '90s, and it continues to delight. It's very well built, with superb functional design and fit/finish. It's a little stodgy looking, but I love the look of the nib: ornate, big enough but not ostentatious, and well proportioned.Best of all, though, is that it writes like a dream. Nice, wet line, smooth across most papers, and just the right amount of flex for my rather light hand. It's utterly reliable--never, ever leaks or refuses to write. Its huge reservoir keeps writing for perhaps twice or three times as long as most others. This is a substantial pen (by which I don't mean too big or heavy). I rotate through half a dozen nice fountain pens, and this is the one I'm always happiest to come back to. Sometimes I even cheat in the rotation....
