Beautiful book that is packed with useful information
This is the first book I've bought from Dr. Lipman and I was worried about spending so much on a book that had just a few reviews, but I love learning about health and wellness topics, so I decided to purchase this. I'm so glad I did! It's packed with information, and Dr. Lipman explains things in a way that is clear and understandable -- and also motivational! The book has beautiful glossy pages, and the layout makes it easy to find information. Dr. Lipman uses the metaphor of a mandala to explain the key principles of good health -- basically, those areas that lay a foundation for healthy living. The main areas covered are:* How to Eat* How to Sleep* How to Move* How to Protect* How to Unwind* How to ConnectEach of those six main sections is broken down into smaller chapters that provide an overview of smaller topics. For instance, the "How to Eat" section has about thirty smaller sections that discuss topics as wide-ranging as juicing to monitoring salt intake to avoiding processed foods. Since these chapters are fairly short, it's easy to read a few before bed or in your spare moments. Also included is a chapter called "What to Do When," which provides quick tips on how to manage situations like how to lose weight, get over heartburn, manage brain fog, and deal with being overwhelmed and anxious.Dr. Lipman also mentions in the Introduction that you can pick and choose how you read this book; you can either start at the beginning and read the whole thing through, or dip into and out of the chapters, depending on your needs.Overall, I'd really recommend this book. Although a bit of the information wasn't new to me, I enjoyed the refresher, while also learning new ideas for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

This book is so much better than I ever imagined
This is not your typical book for reading. It's an easy, entertaining read. As the author states, he hopes the book becomes very dog-eared with constant use. I couldn't agree more. I find myself referring back to this book all the time. There's so much great information about what is healthy to eat, how to sleep well, and so much more. I have had two water filtering systems in my house, but it wasn't until I received this book that I could find a summary of what chemicals were in my city's water system (ewg.org has a fantastic database of water systems). I looked everywhere to find this info when I bought my latest 3-stage filtration system. All I could find was that the city system met national standards without anything specific. So, I'll be getting a new RO water system now, based on the information from this book. Note: I fell into the trap of "Reverse Osmosis systems are all bad because they take out all the minerals." FALSE. If they clean up your bad city water and filter out plastic residue, arsenic, chromium, nitrites, radon, uranium--all bad stuff not filtered out in 3-stage systems--RO systems are so worthwhile. You can get the replacement minerals from your diet or vitamins. This book is just an overall fantastic tool to help you through the maze that constitutes our daily living.

Highly Recommend!
As an investigative health journalist and health coach, I absolutely love this book. Dr. Lipman has given us a clear and simple roadmap for wellness based on his four decades of practical experience and wisdom. Seriously- what a gift!! This book is inspiring and fun to read-- all while encouraging simple, positive changes that can lead to true health and happiness. While what we eat is so important, if we're not sleeping well, unwinding from stress, moving our bodies, and connecting with others, we will struggle to thrive. This is by far the most practical book I've read on wellness!

Where is the scientific evidence?
I'll give this book 3 stars for some good general suggestions. Eating more vegetables, avoiding sugar and junk food, including quality proteins and fats in your diet, and getting enough exercise are all obvious good moves. None of it is outside the realm of common sense, but it is a good reminder, and there are good suggestions for how to improve habits easily.Where everything goes off the rails is the casual yet ridiculous demand to boycott GMOs. What on earth warrants this? The author openly admits that there are no studies showing any harm from genetically engineered foods, but he advocates for boycotting them anyway as a precaution. That is ridiculous. Genetic engineering makes it possible to confer pest resistance on plants without the use of toxic pesticides (which this book rightfully objects to), and with the earth's population expanding beyond its means to support life, every advance in food production is vital. To blithely claim without evidence that we must all eschew GMOs and only eat organic foods is a shockingly privileged position to take. It is not possible to sustain the world's population with organic farmer's markets. Guilting people into feeding their families only expensive organic food using empty slogans to vilify conventional farming and GMOs is lazy, unscientific, and very disappointing. But if you are able to pick up the useful tidbits about healthy habits while ignoring the fashionable nonsense that belongs in a Gwenneth Paltrow shop, this book is ok.
