Bundle: Yang Tai Chi for Beginners DVD and Yang Tai Chi Book (YMAA) Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming

This is an updated review for the bundle Beginner Tai Chi DVD and the book Tai Chi Secrets of the Yang Style. The DVD is excellent, with Dr. Yang performing the postures (patterns) from different angles. He provides just the right amount of explanation of each posture. There are demonstrations of the full form, including a rear view as you would see in a class. This is the 108 posture long form. Dr. Yang shows the martial application for each posture, and emphasizes three key elements to proper practice-postures, breathing and martial application. I have finished the first third of the form focusing on postures, and I am eager to repeat it with a focus on breathing, as he recommends. I did Cheng Man Ching Tai Chi for three years with an instructor. This DVD puts the emphasis on martial arts, and I am very excited to change my Tai Chi practice so that I am studying it the way the was done prior to having the martial application and chi cultivation set aside in favor of relaxation.I previously thought that the book was the Tai Chi Classics. However, I was incorrect. Dr. Yang has recovered and translated work done by prior Yang style masters that comments on the Tai Chi Classics, but take the understanding of the art even further. Dr. Yang also provides commentary on each essay and poem so that the modern Tai Chi student can better understand these works. The wealth of knowledge in these books is amazing, and Dr. Yang has given us a true gift by providing these translations. It will be my pleasure to absorb the wisdom of these works and raise my Tai Chi practice to a higher level!

In depth and superior to other dvd's and videos I've seen. Dr. Yang provides historical background and detailed martial applications behind the moves. His explanations ensure authenticity and foster precision in movement and form. How could any serious student not want that? The lessons are multiple angle but not split screen (he turns). The group and solo whole form demonstrations are wonderful. The 'song' and conclusion complete an incredible package. The bundled book provides complementary information--not lessons. I'm just a beginner but very satisfied with this purchase.

Have studied many of the subjects that Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming has produced books and DVDs. However, all of his information is much more understandable and the depth provided works better for me than any other book, DVD or seminar I have attended or used.

Your Books and DVD's overall are the best quality, and I'm using Simple Qigong, (Eight Pieces of Brocade) and The Essence of Taiji Qigonng,On a daily base. It just wasn’t the way I remember and the book is in Chinese

I was hoping for more pictures to help understand the positions. This book is about Tai Chi, not doing the positions.

I use this along with in-person instruction from one of Dr. Wang’s students. This set is an incredible resource, and very well done.
