Man or beast
I have always thought of Ramsey as this horrible beast who takes pleasure out of seeing his underlings fail. This book opened my eyes to the human-ness of him and explained why he is the way he is. It totally changed my perception of him and has allowed me to now view him differently in each of his new ventures.I would recommend this book to anyone who has enough open mindedness to want to find out who the real man is behind the veil of impatience.

Simply fabulous and entertaining
This book has made me a new fan of Gordon Ramsey and I now want to watch his shows and buy one of his cookbooks (plus one he suggested.) I'd heard of him and saw part of one episode of Hells Kitchen and he was cussing and clearly unhappy and I thought, "This guy is a mess!" But now I understand and appreciate his background from this book, Humble Pie. About six months ago, my sis read a chapter to me as we were on a road trip and since then I'd really wanted to know the rest of the story. I held back on one star because I don't understand some of his language/slang, and because it is too short.

starter
a brief review of the private life of a star. it shows, in the authors own words, the difficult transition from an alienated existence to center stage. the life of a chef is a solitary one and rarely does anyone make it to the spotlight and live to tell the tale. it summarizes the authors take on life and outlines the mistakes that should be avoided and the good habits that should be reinforced. it is paternal without being patronizing. a cautionary tale that inspires and looks out for everyone else who might be going through a parallel journey.

A bit too quick even for a quick read!
I didn't really want to have to read through an entire biography, so I thought this might be just my thing. Unfortunately, it was a bit too short. Felt like there was waaaaaaaay too much missing or skimmed over. It definitely did put Gordon Ramsay in a new light for me. I'll probably pick up a proper biography at some point, though this was an okay starting point. Considering the length, I don't think it was value for money at all. I read it in less than 2 hours. There are only about 80 pages, and the print is quite large.

Have a British dictionary at hand
I enjoyed getting an insight into the life of Gordon Ramsey, but I do feel this book was very rushed. It lacks passion, and reality. Sure it talks about his early life and cooking, but nothing really about his family now, or his joys, or what really inspires him. Also because he is from Europe he uses A LOT of European slang so I was constantly looking stuff up. This book made me want to read more only because I feel like it barely skimmed the surface.

Not Personal at All
I expected way more from Chef Ramsay's autobiography. I've been a fan for years and finally decided to delve into this tv personality/restaurateurs background. The book started off well, but then progressed into what seemed like a long advertisement. When I read an autobiography I expect to feel as though I just read pages from that persons diary, coming away with at least a more in depth understanding of the person. I do not feel that I know Ramsay any better or on a more personal level after finishing this read. I was disappointed in this title and would have liked to see a more thorough evaluation of the chefs life.

I loved this look into Gordon Ramsay's life
I loved this look into Gordon Ramsay's life. I was a little disappointed that it was a short read. But it is well written and easy to read. I recommend this to anyone wanting to know how he started.

Eye Opening Honesty
I have 4**** as this book is interesting and honest. I could barely put the book down. Gordon Ramsay explains his hard knocks upbringing, highlights his lack of school education and how he has a determination of inner steel, to continue with the really harsh knock backs.Humble Pie left me realising I knew nothing of Gordon Ramsay, despite seeing most of the t.v. programmes where he is the protagonist. He isn't a bully because he's been bullied, at times, ruthlessly. He recognises laziness and liars, yet encouraged the higher ratio of raw or eager to learn talent.I withheld the 5th * based on the final chapter, it gives the impression of boasting "Look what I've achieved!" Although, after his shocking childhood & teens, there's no doubt the boy done good, and he's looking for acknowledgment. I highly recommend this book and I'll be looking for more of his books to read.

Just typical
Gordon Ramsay is a chef I admire immensely; what you see is what you get. This book is just typical of his life style; from his humble and harsh upbringing through to his current day activities. A man of such drive and determination, in my opinion, not only is he an inspiration to all would-be budding chefs throughout the world, but, also an icon of rags to riches and what can be achieved if you want it badly enough!

It's a quick read book
This is a quick read book, I bought it by mistake as I wanted the full version (didn't realise it was a quick read book!), it took me around 1 hour to read.Unfortunately because it is a quick read a lot has been taken out and as such it jumps very quickly from one place in his life to another. It still got interesting parts of his life/story. I would say it is a good sample of the full book and will give you an idea if you will like the full version.

A disappointment
The book felt like a rush job. There was very little information of Gordon, the man. It was a synopsis of his achievements, stuff you can google. If this were a meal in a restaurant, I'd send it back. I still like his tv programs, but maybe he should stick to cooking

Written with honesty
I didn’t realise he had a tough time getting to where he is today . A very honest account of his journey .
