My favorite eyelid primer. Covers up the veins and pigmentation.

This primer does a good job of creating a platform for eye makeup that doesn't shift during the day. It has a mild tightening effect, which is good in a way, but also means I feel my eye makeup more, making it more annoying. The "Sheer" is actually very slightly tinted, giving my eyelids a slightly lighter skin color, which is good to make bright eyeshadow brighter. I do Not like that after the primer is blended into the skin, it colors the high points a very pale skin color, and does not color the low points (so it makes any skin texture more obvious, makes wrinkles look more wrinkly). This is the opposite of an air-brushed look.

Update 3/31/2025 This is still the best eyelid primer for me. I have been using this since at least 2016 according to my Amazon orders. Now I live in the Phoenix area and good primer is essential. Since the last review I have tried a couple others including the new e.l.f. Lock it Down eyeshadow primer - it wasn't as good. A 2025 reviewer said they no longer make this - are you kidding me! Buying a few before the price goes up to $45+ each since it's discontinued.This has been the best eyelid primer for me. I always had trouble with eye shadow lasting until I tried eyelid primer many years ago. I have tried multiple expensive brands but always come back to e.l.f.

Not enough product for the price

I've considered buying this for a while, mostly because at the Amazon Add-On price, it's so cheap. But I mostly wear a Jane Iredale eyeshadow palette that stays in place all day long, and I wondered if I really needed it. Recently, though, I got a (free with Ulta purchase) eyeshadow that I really love, but it seems to move into the crease of my eyelid as the day progresses, much more so than my more expensive eyeshadows do. So this primer seemed like it could be an easy solution to that problem.I selected the sheer, so it wouldn't affect the colors of the shadows I already love as-is, and in that sense, it works very well. It blends in easily, and it doesn't appear to lighten the eyeshadows I use. The primer itself goes on smoothly but needs to be blended in a little. I've attached a pic so you can see difference in color between initially applied and blended against my pasty white skin.It's not a large tube at all, and the packaging is deceiving. I won't put the effort into verifying whether it's exactly 0.11 ounces, but as you can see in the attached pic where I've held it under a light, the tube does not arrive fully filled. I imagine I'll go through it pretty quickly, but since e.l.f. products are so ridiculously affordable, I can hardly complain about that. Fact is this stuff works really well, keeps my cheaper eyeshadows in place much longer, doesn't bother my skin or affect my makeup colors except for making them stand out as intended. Definitely worth the steal of a price!

Very little quantity in tube. Doesn’t accomplish the goal.

It's great, however for some reason I seriously struggle to remove the wand from the tube. I know the protective barrier is there to prevent globs from coming out and from dirt getting in, but holy cats is it a tight fit! I highly recommend to anyone who isn't in a hurry and has the time to wrestle it out. I'm hoping that since it's so new (only had a week as of this review) it is suction from the tube being so full and will eventually loosen up or get easier.The product itself works fantastic, holds my shadow all day, doesn't feel dry or sticky when put on. While it is the color pictured, after it's smoothed on it is clear on any skin tone. I especially like that this primer isn't heavy or thick. With other heavier brands I notice whenever I blink the creases of my eyelids have accumulated a lot of eye shadow, emphasizing the crease. This does not cause that, which is perfect for anyone that blinks.
