Blast from the past!
a fish out of water was one of my favorite books as a child. I purchased this for my children and they love it just as much as I did. Whenever it is time for me to read to my children my daughter always makes sure to include this book as one of the first ones for me to read. This book is about a boy who purchases a goldfish from a pet shop. The owner of the shop tells the boy to feed the goldfish so little, no more no less. Of course the boy doesn't listen. He feeds his fish practically a whole bottle of fish food. Before he knows it the fish has outgrown his fish bowl. The boy moves the fish to different places: pots and pans, a vase, the bathtub and finally a pool. The fish just wont stop growing. Finally the boy calls the pet store owner who comes to save the day. Such a cute story! Your children will love it, and so will you.

great read, or read to me book
We love this story - and it's great for young readers or for parents to read over and over and over. I love giving books for gifts, and this is one my child loves and I will gift to others

Kid-approved
I bought this book to go along with a homeschool phonics curriculum called Logic of English. It was my son’s favorite book of that whole program. He thought it was very funny and challenging to read, but not too difficult for a second grader.

EVERY YOUNG KID NEEDS THIS IN THEIR LIBRARY!
I remember this book from when I was a kid. Oscar, the poor fish. It has suspense as much as a child's book can have. This goldfish just keeps growing larger and larger and has to be transferrred to bigger containers. I bought this to read to a three-year-old I babysits, and she loves it!

"A Fish Out of Water" ... great book ... recommended for ages 3 - 7. We had this book in our own personal library for many years ... enjoyed by my sons, and then the grandchildren. The book was read SO much, that it eventually fell apart !!! I have now purchased two new copies ... one for a granddaughter turning '4', and, one for my own library. Kids thoroughly enjoy this story of a little boy "not" following the careful instructions of how to feed his new fish, Otto. The book shares the 'consequences' ... and has a delightful ending !

My 5yr old and 3 yr old love this story. It's not too long ( bedtime, that matters!! ) and has ENORMOUS scope for reader ( mum!! ) to really take on character voices, and have fun reading - the dialogue is short, and enjoyable to read. A bellowing policeman, a snooty firman, a hesitant..guilty boy and a quirky Mr Carp add up to a fun read for all!!! My 3 year old can finish the sentences, I read two words, he does the rest. These books have such a life to them, and children pick up so quickly on such fast paced well written reads. It's soooo rich in grammar, vocabulary.....FUN for little children. Great stuff. By the way, unlike many parents who choose to read their children this story, I'm a rookie to this book - you don't need to have read it as a kid to want to share it!!! But, there's always the chance the nippers you read it to may well hold it in their hearts till adulthood!!!!!!

Very nice book for middle leveled readers. Has very easy catchy words but more still the story has a very goog moral for young children.
