No "dirty" feel or heavy buildup, but keeps hair manageable. Lasts almost forever. For short hair a little goes a long way. Review: Exactly what I was looking for! - I wrote this review because I saw that it was getting such low reviews because it was being compared to the now discontinued "Xtah Crude Clay" To be fair, I have never used it, but that's also why I thought it might be helpful to have a review that wasn't biased with the former users of Xtah Crude Clay. This is an EXCELLENT product. First, let me describe my hair and style that I wanted to achieve. I am a male with short to medium hair length (3.5 inches at the longest areas), very fine and soft so that there is no volume whatsoever, but I wanted to achieve the carefully placed messed up, voluminous look, where the hairs are clumped together, the kind you find in luxury magazine layouts. And this did the trick! The texture of this stuff is like hard clay/wax. it's super hard, so you have to dig it out and then rub it out in your palm or finger tips first and then when it's just a paste in your fingers you can just work it into your hair. there is no residue, no scent, and it doesn't leave it hard or crunchy and it washes out easily. so basically i thought it was an amazing product cuz everything else i tried didn't have the strength to clump my hair together. i tried bumble and bumble, bed head, and then cheaper brands like gatsby (the japanese one). bumble and bumble just didn't have the power to keep my hair clumped, bed head didn't have the power to keep my hair voluminous and gatsby was powerful but my hair didn't move at all... it's like glue that dries... i don't know how good Xtah crude clay was, but if THIS product is getting a 2 star in comparison to Xtah crude clay, then it must have been fantastic beyond belief. Bottom Line: this is great for holding up hair if you want it to spike it some places, curl off the side in others and do a messed up look with solid clumping effect, without the crunchy, shiny, or oiliness. and it is definitely a strong hold.

Good, but Takes Effort
Sebastian Craft Clay delivers great texture and hold—when you have the time to work it in properly. On rushed days, the results can be hit-or-miss. It’s a bit pricey for the amount you get, but since I don’t use it daily, it should last a while. Overall, a solid product, but it requires effort to get the best results.

Sebastian Craft Clay Matte Texturizer 5 stars!
This product works wonders for my hair, or really anyone's hair. The way it texturizers is beyond wonderful. I can't say enough good things about this product. When my Daughter and I lived in California, we found this on Rodeo Drive in a boutique. When we moved back home to Boston we could not find this any where, until I put a search in on Amazon and there it was! We both were so excited to finally have this product back. I know it does wonders for our hair, and we both have completely different hair. This makes it so easy to style, tame and shine! No heavy product weighing your hair down. Very light. After buying this a few times in Beverly Hills, we couldn't believe the price we got on Amazon! Much, much lower than what we paid for in California. Well worth the higher price, but who doesn't like a bargain? Hope this was helpful!

Great Product!
I have used this product for years, with different hairstyles! Although I try new products that come on the market I always return to Sebastian Craft Clay. I have fine hair and it really helps give it volume and boost. It only takes a tiny bit, so start easy and add more if you need it. Put the small amount on your fingertips and spread it on to both hands then apply from roots out, dabbing and pulling product toward the ends of hair. If you want a peicey look you can apply a tiny amount to hair pieces you want defined. For defined curls apply small amount of paste to hands and dampen with water, apply in a scrunchy fashion to dried curls for a fuller more defined look. They key to Craft Clay is starting with a smidgen and add more only if needed. Go lightly until you get the feel for the product. I'm a huge fan!!

Not Bad
Over-all, it gets the job done. It's a bit expensive for the size, but that doesn't bother me too much. There's a lot inside and I'm sure this will last. However, this clay is a bit odd and takes effort to work all the way through your hair evenly. I'm sure I'll get it down, it'll just take some practice. I've never tried the Crude Clay before, but I might purchase that on E-bay and see which one is better. But basically, this is a good product. It does what it says it will do and the hold is firm. If you only use a little bit it's perfect, but use too much and it'll clump your hair and make it look greasy. I'm not thrilled about this product, but I'm content. Or in other terms: it'll do. Oh, and the shipping took forever. 14 days to be exact - but it arrived and that's what matters.

A good matte finish is hard to find
This has been my usual product for years now. It used to come in a bigger container for the same price, but it takes me long enough (~2 months, I would guess) to go through even one of the current 1.7 oz. containers that it's not a big deal. What I look for in a product is a matte finish and a reasonably strong hold without drying crunchy. This stuff delivers on all counts, though it will hold hair straight up only if you use a fair amount of it. When my hair is shorter, I tend to apply this product dry because it stays stickier that way. When my hair is longer, I tend to apply when my hair is damp because it results in a smoother look. Only real downside is that this product is hard to get off of your hands and out of your hair. If you look at the ingredients, the first one is petrolatum (i.e. petroleum jelly) and another is "earth." So one way to think about this is that it really is clay -- it's kinda like Vaseline plus dirt. The petrolatum part is probably why it's hard to wash out. You really need a fair amount of shampoo, and sometimes I have to shampoo twice if I really want it all gone.

Great styling product. It keeps your shape all day and then a quick retouch and you are ready to go out in the evening.
