Q: Are they sturdy . . . Or wobbly when getting up?

they wobble a little bit, but that didn't bother me. One of the nice features, I thought, was you can swing them out of the way when someone who doesn't need them has to sit down. But they do snap into place and I found them sturdy as far as supporting my weight. They can wobble maybe an inch in each direction. If you have bad balance and think the wobbling will be a problem I would suggest getting a commode that fits over the toilet and has 4 feet instead of only 2. I used that last time when I had my hip done but I preferred these safety rails after my 2nd hip because they are less obtrusive.

Yes the unit comes in five (5) pieces One attaches under the two(2) toilet seat bolts. Each arm attaches separately to this piece. The other two (2) go in the arms at the bottom to allow you too adjust the arms to the height of the stool. I do not see any reason you could not attach only one (1)arm. You must remember the arms are made to push down on to get up they will not take a lot of side push. Hope this helps .Dale Starks

only the legs. but that is enough to give a good balance and good correction in height.

Not really sure but I bought it for my 80 year old dad @ 6'2" 250# whose battling cancer lost most of his strengh. Who told me it helps him alot. He is so weak he can't get out of a chair without rocking himself out. For the money I would give it try
