Great backpack
Ordered this in black/pink and was pleasantly surprised. So far I've used it for a day hike and it was quite comfortable. It held all of the necessary items without being too bulky. I didn't overload it as it was a day hike, but it seemed like it could handle a lot more than the few items I packed. It seems like good quality and there were no rips or tears. The pocket on the hip straps was convenient; however, it will not fit an iPhone 12 Pro. So keep that in mind if you have a phone similar in size. The main pockets have a lot of space. The back is on the stiff side and if you have a smaller frame like I do (and another reviewer), it might rub against your neck. I'm 5'4" and I almost had that problem. The straps are thick and were comfortable for the 3 hours I had the backpack on. As another review mentioned, the whistle isn't that great. You have to really find the right angle for it to work correctly and even then, I feel like it could be louder. The backpack did come with the rain cover in the pocket on the bottom. I haven't tried it yet, but it's in there (as others have asked if it comes with a rain cover). Overall it's a great purchase and so far it's working out!

Really enjoying beating this pack into the ground.
So far I have only owned this pack for a week. I bought a three liter bladder for it that fit pretty well but the clips meant to hold it don't work with the one I got. It would have been nice if they had sold it with the bladder but that would cost more so I can't whine to much. I have found a way to hold it upright with the creative use of hair ties I'm sure most of you can figure something out. I bought this pack at the full price and consider it a great buy. My intention at the time had simply been to carry extra clothes and towels for my kids on day trips. (there are 6 kids ages 2-10) There is plenty of space for what I need. I really love the hip pocket, I keep my nephews inhaler in it and I just feel safer knowing it's right there where I can reach it. With my old pack it had to be in the front pocket because I prefer to have it behind a zipper but this is so much better. I am happy with the material and workmanship. It is light weight and at first I was worried but we went rockhounding and it really shined. Not only did it not end up torn by my tools when I fell it also held the fifty or so pound fossil the kids insisted we take home. The padded waist strap made carrying the ridicules rock the two and a half miles home not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. As an added bonus when I take most of the clothes out and tighten everything down it makes a great padded backrest while I mow. I know it sounds silly but the sun just beats down and drains you when your mowing, even on a rider. roll up a towel for lumbar support and toss some ice in the bladder, I even take out the inhaler and stuck my iPod in the hip belt. (it's a tight fit) With the straps on my shoulders and the waist belt clip backward around the seat it stays in place great and makes mowing the yard so much more enjoyable. Oh and the whistle is loud!

Does not include a rain cover, but still pretty nice.
Doesn’t include rain cover. Seems pretty good after just receiving it. But, sadly, it does not include the rain cover and doesn’t have the little pocket to store a rain cover. Perhaps an earlier version of this product did include the small pocket and the rain cover but this 40L model I purchased does not. So a little disappointed by that. The product description doesn’t reference the rain cover, but some of the reviews and Q&A do which led me to believe it was included.

The chest buckle is great for shifting the load a bit
Full Disclosure: I did not wear this to go camping, I did not climb Mt. Everest with it etc., but I did survive spring break at Disney World carrying the daily load out of a family of three, which includes a 10 year old. I have had the same amount of stuff - or less - in other, "survival" backpacks, and just their ergonomics alone would make my shoulders sore and my lower back would be a swamp by midday on a warm (if not altogether hot) day. I bought this pack based on the straps, size (nothing excessive), and the idea that it supposedly allowed for back ventilation. It survived the airports, held everything we needed to hike around the Disney Parks for the family (including souvenir purchases, bottles of water etc), and was compact enough to be able to navigate insane crowds. My knees and feet were completely shot (I'm 40), but my shoulders and back never bothered me. The chest buckle is great for shifting the load a bit, and there was the waist / hip buckle as well, so I never found myself fatigued just by standing there with the backpack on. The mesh pouches on the outside made for easy access to water bottles, and we even kept our refillable popcorn bucket in the main section. The pack is not waterproof, and it comes with a rain cover. I removed the rain cover from its bottom-most pouch and instead keep bandaids etc in there. Scotch guard or other spray on water sealer should do you just fine in comparable applications to mine. For our purposes, I am E L A T E D with this purchase; I have suffered at the straps of other backpacks, but this was a non-entity on my shoulders. The pack itself is lightweight and I just really can't impress enough upon you how differently the trip would've been with a pack that trapped heat on my back and whose straps weren't as well padded or configurable with the different buckles. It fit under the seat in front of me in the plane and was always easy to get out of the way on the bus, For reference, I am 5'10" and about 185 lbs.

Beautiful pack that's worth the money
I have an Osprey that's the same size and this Mountaintop competes with it in terms of excellent material thickness, straps, style, adjustability and foldability. There are plenty of pockets to store gear and hold your poles which makes it ideal for ease of access. I think the pack is stylish in the maroon color. Definitely wish I had found this first before spending 2x the price on one from REI.

Hiking backpack
Just like what I needed. It has enough storage compartments, comfortable while carrying it, came with a waterproof cover.

I've used this backpack for a couple of holidays and it's yet to let me down. A ton of space, each compartment is sized well, i've crammed it to full capacity where the stitching on my bags usually start tearing, or zips start breaking, but this bag hasn't broken a sweat and shows no signs of deterioration. Highly recommend for hiking or as hand luggage on a plane, i've been able to fit a full week-long holiday's worth of gear in there! The waist pads can get a little annoying since you may need to adjust them every time you put the bag on, but they do a great job of distributing weight and the conveniently placed pocket is great to put spare change, or gum and lip balm and such... It might not be from a big or local brand, but the build quality and value are fantastic!

Used the 40L to backpack around Europe for 3 weeks. I was seriously impressed with the quality of this bag. I've previously used an Osprey 70L for backpacking but wanted something smaller and lighter. This bag was comfortable and able to fit a lot more than I had expected. It definitely works as carry on luggage for budget airlines. Love all the compartments, straps, and especially the price :)

Return date expires from order date to delivery. Bag not good money waste product.

Too many full compartments. Better if the outermost compartment is a shallower waist-belt style compartment for small items that require easy/easier access. To many criss-crossing straps that hinder access to the zips. Unfortunately, zips are not waterproof type.

This Mountaintop 40L Hiking Backpack is very suitable for this purpose and is a bargain. For the price, you can’t complain about anything. It is relatively well made and thought out, with good zippers and various practical straps for carrying gear. The fabric is rip-stop nylon. The pack is roomy and expandable enough to house a reasonable number of items, but is not too big. The straps at the bottom are very helpful for fastening say a sleeping bag or a raincoat. It has a flexible structure. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bag.
