Q: Can the roller be placed along the long side of the board?

The roller is separate from the board and can be put anywhere you like. Usually the roller goes under the board. I havent heard or seen anyone try putting the roller on the side of the board. Now if your asking if the roller can be placed under the board parallel with length of the board, the answer is yes. However the stoppers are not able to be attached longways and you will create a very dangerous situation for yourself.

Q: Can you spin it around? They used to have one at my old gym and you could slide side to side & spin around too. It was hella sweet. Thanks!

You could conceptually do this - but it would be a feat of amazing balance. The board only rests on top of the roller. There is no track or connection that would allow for easy spinning or rotation. But nothing is stopping you from doing what you describe...it would simply take really great balance.
