They are simply the best mandolin strings I have ever used.
Dislike? Price, and that's gospel. Even so, I shall now tend rhapsodic about these eight little beauties.I use the medium-weight on both my mandolins: a 1914 Gibson A0 pumpkin and an (estimated) 1880-ish Galliano di Nappoli Cremona-style (tater-bug for all you Americans) 26 rib with a face about the thickness of a postage stamp. I "EFFIN' LOVE THESE STRINGS !!I'm retired (76) and play very little anymore, my hands think I should stop altogethe, but I have now had the present strings on the instruments, tuned A-440 and they are still in tune whenever I pick them up to play. The sound is 95% (after three years) as bright as when I put them on and they still feel "Smppth as Peggy Shippen's (look her up!) back.Of course I have extra sets "J.I.C." but i consider the investment to be money well spend. Proof of this is that I bought six sets some time ago at (I think) $41.50per set and I can forsee the prices only continue to escalate due to difficulties in getting raw materials and possibly atrittion of skilled artisans fir creating these delights.Did I mention I love these strings?Oh.

Great set of strings
If you play fiddle and mandolin, it is great to have the same feel on both instruments. These strings are expensive but last a long time and sound great.

The best flatwound mandolin strings on the market, hands down.
These mandolin strings are expensive yes, but they are well worth the price for classical, blues and jazz musicians. They have a delicate, clean tone and are very easy on the fingers.Stay away from these strings though if you play bluegrass. They won't hold up to heavy pounding.

Quality strings at a Premium Price
l have to admit that I was initially skeptical about the price of the Thomastik-Infeld 154 Mandolin strings when compared to other brands at much more (perceived) reasonable prices. I decided to give these a go anyway and am certainly glad that I did. After stringing my mandolin about a month ago I noticed an immediate difference from my previous strings. These were incredibly vibrant in sound and feel amazing to play. Unlike my previous strings, these are smooth and easy on the fingers. I've also noticed that they have continued to feel "as new" even at a month old and considerable play time under all conditions. It is hard initially to pay the higher price for these strings but what it has done for the tone of my mandolin was worth the price two fold. Very happy with this purchase and plan on making this the string of choice in the future.

Very good strings.
These are very nice strings. They produce a nice sound - mellow but almost bright. Best thing about them is they feel so smooth to the touch. Worst thing about them is the high price. 3 to 4 times the price of most other strings. Why?

Thomastik 154ST Stark/Heavy Loop End Not Ball End
I ordered the Thomastik 154ST mandolin strings, these are loop end which is what I expected to receive just like the picture and not what the description says (ball end), the Thomastik ball end is 154K for those who are interested. So one more time, these are loop end (see attached pictures). Very nice strings and would buy them again, the vender shipped very quickly from the UK and I received them in the USA in ten days. Happy with the purchase.

Excellent strings
These are truly great strings. They have a very silky feel to play and the medium gauge strings feel like light gauge. If I had any complaint, it's that they are expensive. But they don't wear out quickly so over a year the cost is about the same as bronze wound strings.

Totally worth it
They sound fantastic! Lows are round and soft, and highs are bright and clear. The lower tension and thinner low strings make it easier to fret notes on those strings higher up the neck. The G strings don't "split apart" when I use my ring or pinky on the 7th fret or above. I also found these easier to put on than the usual strings. I especially appreciated the cloth winding near the tuners for the three wound pairs. Would have been nice for the E's, but they were not so hard to put on, and I didn't feel like they were close to breaking (I've broken a few E strings). The only disadvantage might be that the E's don't sound as good tuned down to D, if you like that tuning. You could always sub in a higher-tension E set if you like.

Le jeu fort est très fidèle et agréable à entendre.
Le jeu fort est très agréable à entendre .Pour la dureté des cordes, il n'y a pas de grosse différence et on s'y fait, mais vraiment le son est d'une pureté exceptionnelle!!!

Different but worth every penny
I’ve been using these strings for 8 weeks now for about 12 hours playing per week so feel able to give a considered opinion.I was a bit put off by the price at first but a great player I know, Polly Bolton, suggested I try them. I have several really good mandos but decided to try these on my luthier built flat top made by Steve Suggitt of Chapel Guitars. It’s a fairly bright instrument with a unique voice but I’d often thought that the usual phosphor bronze daddarios etc didn’t quite bring out its best though the eft74s were very good. Anyway bit the bullet and paid the money. What a surprise! They feel superb to play, easy on the fingers with a fast, direct action.Faultless intonation on the fan fretted fingerboard.A very traditional mandoliny sound trending towards the classical sound that has developed as they’ve been played. They have a sound that I’m told is very easy to place in a mix either live or for recording. They show no sign of wear or deterioration and seem to be still improving. By this time most types of string would be overdue for replacement!I’m impressed and will be continuing to use them on this instrument. I don’t think I’d try them on my f5 for bluegrass style but recommend them for anyone playing a folky Celtic style or even ragtime.Well worth the price!
